Title: Re: Ride Ataxia Dallas Post by rideataxia on Nov 17th, 2010, 12:29am Hello Fellow Recumbent Enthusiasts, I am the organizer of Ride Ataxia Dallas and I came across this post so I thought I would chime in. Ride Ataxia is a young program (just over a year) of the Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA). FARA's mission is to find a treatment and a cure for Friedreich's ataxia (FA) through scientific research. FA is a genetic, progressive, life shortening neuromuscular disorder with which I am affected. I started Ride Ataxia in 2007 when I wanted to do something to help myself and many other people. I rode my trike 2,500 miles from San Diego to Memphis. Over the next few years I made several more journeys including a successful finish of Race Across America as part of the 4 man Team FARA in 2010. During these journeys we have made a significant impact on research by funding $960,000 in FA research and inspiring others to take control of their own situation no matter what the circumstance. We have now turned the ride into one and two day regional rides taking place in different locations across the country. In 2010 we had rides in Northern California, Tampa, Philadelphia, and Southern California. We just completed our Philly ride in October and we had 400 participants who helped raise $150,000 for FA research. Dallas is a brand new location for Ride Ataxia and we are very excited to have a ride there on March 26, 2010. We would love for all our participants to raise funds, however fundraising is not required. The $500 fundraising requirement is for if you want a free jersey, otherwise you can just buy a jersey for $75. If you register before Feb 25 the price is $30 which includes the ride with full SAG support and fully stocked rest stops plus an event t-shirt and a post ride BBQ by Outback Steakhouse. This is our first time in Dallas but we have had some great reviews from our participants in other locations. I hope you will consider joining us. Registration will open in mid December. We will also have an online version of the route at that time. I Hope to see you on the road, -Kyle Bryant http://theataxian.com |
Title: Re: Ride Ataxia Dallas Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Nov 17th, 2010, 5:34pm Thanks for the clarifications, Kyle, and welcome to the RBENT board... I, among others here, followed your progress during RAAM, and we applaud your efforts. Our pal Sandy Earl, fellow RAAMer, is also an RBENTer... Knowing that the fundraising is an option is good to know, it'll increase your participation overall -- just make sure that that's clear on your website! |

You can now view the routes and signup online. Just a reminder, fundraising is not required. However you could earn great prizes like an event jersey, a brand new road bike (if that's how you roll) or a new Catrike for your fundraising efforts. Check out the site and let me know if there are any questions or concerns. I appreciate the feedback. http://rideataxia.org/dallas -Kyle |
