Title: Mineral Wells State Trail Post by system-f on Jul 29th, 2010, 10:28pm Can I get by with 28mm tires on my bent or is this trail too rough for road type tires? If the trail is like the unpaved parts of the Trinity I should get by. Anyone ridden it? |
Title: Re: Mineral Wells State Trail Post by Patti on Jul 30th, 2010, 10:14am I rode it a couple of years ago and think it is very comparable to the gravel sections of the Trinity Trail. We were on mountain bikes but saw 4 other people on recumbents that day. No one appeared to have any difficulties. Only one time did I find any loose, soft gravel and that was over at the edge of the trail. The surface was generally hard packed and easy to ride. |
Title: Re: Mineral Wells State Trail Post by jcsadowski on Jul 30th, 2010, 10:18am It has been years, I rode the trail on a Vision with 1.25" tires and did not have a problem. However the trail has trees on both sides which makes great shade but NO breeze at all. It gets pretty warm. |
Title: Re: Mineral Wells State Trail Post by system-f on Jul 30th, 2010, 9:32pm Thanks guys, rode about 17.5 miles of it today and the after 16 miles it is pretty worthless because of the deeper sand patches. On the way into Garner I didn't realize I was going downhill and coming back it was a long slow climb 2-4% grade boring and SLOW for me. For some reason I was under the impression that Mineral Wells was higher than the start, but I was wrong. |
Title: Re: Mineral Wells State Trail Post by Patti on Jul 31st, 2010, 12:32pm Sorry to hear that. Maybe the maintenance on it hasn't been too good in the last couple of years. |
Title: Re: Mineral Wells State Trail Post by system-f on Jul 31st, 2010, 11:03pm Oh, I still had a blast until I realized how much lower 17.5 miles into the trail is than the start. |
Title: Re: Mineral Wells State Trail Post by richardr on Aug 2nd, 2010, 9:42pm We like to start at the Weatherford end. The first 4 miles is up hill, but a blast coming back. We also don't ride into Mineral Wells becuase you have to cross a number of streets which spoil the fun of riding on a trail. |
Title: Re: Mineral Wells State Trail Post by system-f on Aug 3rd, 2010, 12:38pm I started in Weatherford and you go up for 4 miles then down into Garner, but coming back was the suck. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/42471536 If I had been on my mountain bike it would probably have been much easier coming up. |
