Title: The Goatneck Post by Rawhide on Jul 6th, 2010, 8:56am Any interest, if there are enough participants, on having a final rest stop similar to the one they have at HHH? DJ |
Title: Re: The Goatneck Post by aikigreg on Jul 6th, 2010, 1:56pm I won't be riding. They've mucked up the roads so bad that it's just not worth it. You spend more time in the air than on the ground with the insane boulder seal. I rode a good chunk of the overall goatneck, but only a small part of the boulderseal on Sunday. Once you're out of the Cleburne area it's quite nice. |

Does this mean you won't be joining me for FWBA's Goatneck Practice Run (http://www.fwbaclub.org/ride/ride_pop.cfm?ride=1377) that Cheri is leading this coming Saturday? |
Title: Re: The Goatneck Post by aikigreg on Jul 6th, 2010, 4:13pm You'll have to just enjoy looking at Cheri instead of me. Bring extra spokes :) |
Title: Re: The Goatneck Post by Rawhide on Jul 6th, 2010, 4:48pm Wasn't aware it had gotten that bad out there. I know they destroyed my favorite stretch of 1187 west of Bud and I with that stuff. Well perhaps we can find another venue sometime. DJ |

I've never lost a spoke to boulder seal. DJ, the Goatneck route isn't any different than last year. It's getting pretty hard to avoid boulder seal these days, with the state using it on everything. It gets pretty annoying on a long randonneuring ride, but 70 miles isn't a problem. |
Title: Re: The Goatneck Post by aikigreg on Jul 6th, 2010, 9:04pm You'll probably never notice it, DJ. Chipseal is my particular demon. Arthritic and rebuilt feet. |

I don't recall it being that bad, managed a 20+ average last year |
Title: Re: The Goatneck Post by hornsmw13 on Jul 9th, 2010, 4:20pm mark, you manage a 20+ everywhere you go. are you doing pp tommorrow? |
Title: Re: The Goatneck Post by aikigreg on Jul 9th, 2010, 11:05pm Just kidding about the spoke, Bud - hence the smiley. Those suckers you've built ought to last for 10k miles easy. Mark, last year at the GN was when I had the screw from my chainstay vibrate loose. You'll recall I was right there with you the whole time till that. mleuck wrote:

True but if I recall most of the chipseal came after that although I thought about the hills more than the road surface |
Title: Re: The Goatneck Post by bikerteam on Jul 30th, 2010, 3:32pm The past two years I've done the 10 mile and 30 mile race. Won the 10 mile, and came in 2nd in the 30 mile to a A&M kid. While it's a race with a lead vehilce the entire race, the only fanfare at the finish is a picture with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, along with your name on a white board at the finish line. My short distance speed is great (well over 20mph), but I can't ride over 100k in the heat anymore. I'm going to be riding the 100k with Angie and another female friend. Won't be fast, but it's awesome riding with loved ones. Unless you're a Petty, speed doesn't matter when riding with loved ones. [smiley=pepper.gif] Hope to see some of you out there tomorrow. |
