Title: Replacing crankset on V-rex
Post by goldentouch on May 24th, 2010, 9:21pm

I was wanting to upgrade the crankset on the 2001 v-rex.  I was looking at SHIMANO ULTEGRA but saw numbers like 6703, fc 6604, 6603 A.   Is there a certain number and does the bottom bracket need to be the same number.  Please help strighten out this confused brain. [smiley=undecided.gif]

Ultegra cranks have integrated Bottom Brackets. See http://www.dynasystech.com/publish/content/global_cycle/en/us/index/products/road/ultegra_6700/product.-code-FC-6700.-type-.html for the double.

http://www.dynasystech.com/publish/content/global_cycle/en/us/index/products/road/ultegra_6700/product.-code-FC-6703.-type-.html is the triple but only goes down to a 30T granny.

http://www.dynasystech.com/publish/content/global_cycle/en/us/index/products/road/ultegra_6700/product.-code-FC-6750.-type-.html is the compact double

For recumbent use I suggest either the triple or the compact double as either one has lower gears than the standard double. Any of them will require removing the Bottom Bracket and installing external bearing cups for the Ultegra system. Whether that's worth the effort is up to you.

Thanks Opus for the information it is making since now.  I was wanting to start upgrading the V-rex and if I like it then buy a Ti-Rex frameset and transfer all the good parts to it.  I was at least wanting to go with the ultegra or the dura ace parts.   Better wheels.  I might just wait and see if anyone puts one up for sale first.  I still have the V-rex to play with and the Stratus to ride
