Title: Tires for the Stratus Question
Post by goldentouch on May 6th, 2010, 6:29am

I had a flat on the Stratus XP because of the bad roads.  A tube pinch after running over a rock.  I changed to 26 X 1.5 they fit ok but I also bought a pair of 26 X 1 1/8.  I am not sure if the 1 1/8 will fit when I started reading up on them.  There is the trail and error method but I was hoping for some advice.

It sounds as if the general shape of the roads will force you towards the wider tire range - 1.35" should work well also, like the Schwalbe Kojaks.  Stay on the high side of the recommended pressure range...  Stay with slicks, or at least as little tread as possible, to help keep your rolling resistance down.

It's been my experience that you'll get more pinch flats with the 1 1/8 than the larger tire which is why I run with 26 x 1.35 Kojaks, I also run them at slightly over 100 pounds even tho they are rated at 95, they are very good tires IMHO and just as fast if not faster than the 1 1/8's

Thanks I ordered 3   26 x 1.35 Kojaks 2 for the stratus and 1 for the v-rex back and a 20 x 1.35 Kojack for the front.  I will try them.   I am putting the 26 x 1.5 on my grandsons MTB.  The big knobby tires are holding him back.  Thanks for the information.
