Title: FWD Watch your RD/Foot possible interaction Post by evblazer on Apr 5th, 2010, 9:06pm I would highly suggest a spoke guard inside the cassette (dork disc?) for FWD where you could hit the RD with your foot if at all possible. Funny story as I rode my bike to get just that item [smiley=thumbsup.gif] I had the limit screws set but I somehow knocked it at some point on my ride. Later going down a hill at about 25 I shifted the wrong way and the chain took a dive into my cassette. The baron came up a few minutes later so at least Mark got to see the new cruzbike frame. Not really sure what the plan is. I think the hub might be toast or at least the freewheel and/or cassette along with the rear derailleur. Might be time for the internal hub I was thinking about. Edit: actually.. I guess it is time to just hang it up for a while.. maybe revisit it later or sell outthe cruzbike parts as a kit or something. |

I think the freewheel might be damaged because there was not that much space in there for a chain to fit and where the lock ring it looks a little bulged out. I'm going to try and pull the cassette to get the chain out and see if the freewheel looks good but they aren't too expensive to change out. RD is toast or at least I wouldn't trust it since it is pretty banged up. Hanger is bent so that needs to be replaced I'm going to check the front triangle it looked a little loose but it could just be there were so many pivots. I'm going to wait a couple days to decide what to do. |

I don't think the hurricane has one but I'm really not worried about it on that bike. I have jammed a chain before on a RWD and it nicked a spoke or two nothing more and then the tire just skidded. That and the derrailiuer and jockey wheels aren't so exposed since they are back under the rack and seat. With the moving bottom bracket and derailleurs are all is just sorta spinning around and the bike has fallen more then once. What I may need is one of those MTB bashguards for the derailleur as well as the spoke protector. Or just an internally geared hub might do it which if I get a new wheel is probably what I'll get. I always wanted to try out an IGH. Oy but not for so much.. maybe I'll just have to wait on ebay for one to come up. |

Title: Re: FWD Watch your RD/Foot possible interaction Post by evblazer on Apr 8th, 2010, 8:07pm Well forget the IGH for now too much $ and I'm not sure if I want one for the cruz or the hurricane and the same one won't work for both due to the tire sized. Sturmey archer is good for 20" wheels the rest are for bigger wheels. Went to bluebonnet and got a disc only mavic 717 wheel for cheap. It was the old hub style that allowed you to replace the spokes without removing the cassette or disc cool stuff but they don't make them new anymore so I wonder what problems it has. They even threw in a spoke protector for free [smiley=laugh.gif] Found some new bb7 185mm for $45 at jenson so that should be a nice upgrade to the very cheap vbrakes that came with the bike. |
