Title: New headrest/flag mount for velo
Post by Hurricane Dan on Feb 8th, 2010, 9:12pm

The cops say I need more visibility so I thought I'd add a flag.  Little did I realize there isn't two square inches of flat space anywhere on this machine.  I thought I could stick the flag straight up from behind my head and that gave me an excuse to make a headrest AND cover that gaping hole behind my head (as opposed to the one INSIDE).  Much thanks to the wife for some stitching on a piece of leftover vinyl.  All I have left is to clean it up a bit and pick up some of that industrial strength velcro tomorrow. :)

Say, any idea how much this machine weighs?

Weights are approx.
75 lbs. with options
+ 22 lb. motor and bracing
+ 7.5 lb. LIon Battery or 17 lb. NiMH Battery

I don't ever use the LIon battery.  It just doesn't have the amp rating (torque) of the NiMH.  Typically, I carry one of my two NiMHs and about 15 lbs of additional weight such as my work boots, clothes, various accoutrements in case the weather changes and my bag with tool kit and spare parts.  I weight 208 at the moment, so that's about 337 lbs. total.  The chain from the motor to the crank came off this morning in the middle of my longest hill.  I didn't have the time to fix the problem so I removed the chain and went on to work.  The worst hill slowed me down to about 8 mph but I topped all the others between 12 and 13 mph so it may be heavy, but it rolls really nice.  I think part of that is the weight distributed over three high pressure tires.  It still comes out to about 10 lbs. LESS per tire than on my high racer.

Thanks Dan.  We've got to get together soon so I can check it out.  I'll have my camera charged! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
