Title: Switching from Magura Julie Hydraulic to Avid BB7' Post by mleuck on Jan 16th, 2010, 7:39pm Anyone currently using Avid BB7's? I'm looking at getting rid of the Hydraulics for some mechanical BB7's Any pro's and cons? |

Title: Re: Switching from Magura Julie Hydraulic to Avid Post by evblazer on Jan 16th, 2010, 10:27pm I upgraded my giro 26 from bb5s to bb7s. They are really great and easy to keep in adjustment. I was able to skid easily with them and they did modulate pretty well too. |

Whats the difference between the BB5's and 7's? BTW I rode by your house today and you didn't even have the courtesy to be standing out in your lawn to wave at me :) |

With the BB7's, both pads are adjustable. The BB5 only gives you an adjustment on one. |

[/quote] Not sure if it has changed recently but the bb7's have larger much longer lasting pads which I believe are the same type of pads used on the juicys. The bb5 had smaller circular pads. . BB7's also have a spring tension adjusting screw for whatever that is worth. Make sure you use proper brake jackets and not derrailluer jackets for those high speed stops yah gotta do.. On that note make sure you break them in sufficiently before you go barraling down hilltop at 50 then can be pretty worthless for fast stops until they get a little wear on them. They appear to be heavier than the Maguras although I doubt I'd notice, nice thing appears to be the ability to adjust the spacing of the calipers, the Maguras often rubbed against the disk if not set correctly. I'll mount them when I get some time, still trying to figure out the steering stalk Optima sent for the silver Baron |
Title: Re: Switching from Magura Julie Hydraulic to Avid Post by Kwijybow on Jan 26th, 2010, 9:18pm After initially being a little put off from my one bb7 disc brake, I'm now quite pleased with it, and actually wish I had one for the Front brake as well, where it would do more good. I'm thinking I really don't use the 9 and 10 cog all that much, and perhaps a normal disc capable hub with an 11-32 Cassette might be more suitable for the riding I do. -- Nelson. |
