Ugh, you have to ride these slow. I'm game if others are, & it's not COLD  [smiley=headbang.gif]

Sign me up. But when it comes to long rides, I'm a weather wuss. If it's snowing, I'll be riding the Recliner 200k, instead.

Slow is my perfect pace!  ;D

You do not have to ride them slow, you just need to finish in 24 hours. If you wanted you could propose a 600 km route for your team...

I could be talked into it for a good medium pace.  April 2 should be fairly warm, but I won't ride in the rain!

Nelson - feel free to jump in here and educate the masses on our first Fleche attempt a few years ago.... Nelson, Dennis, Jeremy and I rode a traditional "point to point" fleche starting in San Angelo and eding at Joe Pool.  We assumed the prevailing Southwest winds would be at our backs most of the way.  Well, the morning of our ride the temperatures plumeted to freezing, and winds were very strong out of the northeast. We started at 1pm.  Within a couple hours we were crawling at 9mph, even on the descents.  By dark, we were just going through Brownwood, and it was so cold it was miserable.  Freezing rain...  We kept going, riding about 12 hours when we released there was no way we could make the 24 hour time limit.

So, while the 24 hour time limit appears relatively easy, don't let it fool you.  You never know what might happen.   A majority of the team has to finish together to get credit for the ride.

Hi Ray,

Your post about covers it! 35mph headwind with frozen precipitation.  A wonderful ride.  Despite the slow pace we weren't really too far behind pace.  But there would have been no resting.

Take Care,
Nelson.

Well it's time to start planing a route and we still need at least 1 more rider. Come on it well be fun its only 360k with 24 hours to ride it in. Rides like this one are always an adventure.  As someone one said a ride like this is an accomplishment ride(right Bud). Please come play. Thanks.

Peggy

I'm in for sure unless we get unseasonal temps or it's obviously going to seriously storm all day - the 300k we did last weekend taught me I can handle the odd bit of rain.  I'd ask for only a couple things - let's keep out of boulderseal as much as is possible and I'd much rather do a loop than a point to point unless we have a plan to get back to our vehicles.

What are your thoughts on a route so far, Peggy?

Mark M. is in also and he has a loop route already mapped out that we are going to use it. Thanks Mark that saved us hours of work.
We have room for only 5 rides. One team is now full.
Steve
Peggy
Mark
Greg
Nelson, Bud ?

Looks like a fun time.

If we have 3 to 5 more rides we could put together 2 teams.

I'll ride. But it looks like we have one too many. I don't mind deferring to Nelson, if he wants to ride.

I'm still relatively iffy, it always falls on Easter weekend, so we may have Family / Church plans that take precedence.

Take Care,
Nelson.

I should add, therefore I defer to Bud for the last spot!  If it works out that I'm free then I can be the spare.

Take Care,
Nelson.

Very well, I'll do the ride. Since slow is the order of the day, I should do well.
