Title: Found out why I'm still slow
Post by Opus the Poet on Nov 30th, 2009, 7:37pm

I made a 4 hour trip on the bus to donate blood Wednesday, and found out why I'm still so slow in spite of all the work I have been doing to improve my power: I'm still anemic. No blood in my blood. Geritol candidate. This is getting real old now, but at least my counts are holding steady and at a higher number than I had at the 2007 HHH (18 Hcrit). So, I can rip the cages off cheap pedals, and bend cranks, but I don't have the hematocrit to keep up the effort. I guess the drag racing trike is going to be the only racing vehicle I ride.

I'm still working on it [smiley=whistling.gif] The design right now is a low-racer unicycle with a trailer, and trying to get a stable geometry that won't go wonky on me at high speed. [smiley=twitchy.gif] I'm working mainly on the inclination of the steering axis between the unicycle and the 2 wheel trailer.

Just lines on a cad screen at the moment. There's a stability tester on the web that weeds out the worst of the wonky setups  that I have tested (I'm going from a steering axis inclination of zero to 90) trying to find something that steers and is stable at all speeds. I tested one in the steel with a 90 axis that worked fine below 10 MPH and was totally unridable by 15. I mean that thing was evil [smiley=evil.gif] and would try to jacknife with a twitch of a shoulder muscle. One of the reasons I'm building a trike in the first place was to make a self-launching streamliner (fairing after I make a stable and fast bare vehicle).

And in the meantime I have to work on why I'm anemic, again (still?). [smiley=headbang.gif]

Good news! My Hgb and Hcrit were tested by the lab rat keeper and are very good, above normal in fact. Nothing on how it got so low at the Red Cross blood center, unless their meter was way low. And the funny thing is they went to the meter because they had been rejecting too many people with their old method which was highly negatively influenced by operator technique.
