Title: First commute on (in?) the Alleweder
Post by Hurricane Dan on Nov 23rd, 2009, 6:54pm

This thing is friggin' SWEEEEEEEEET!  When it comes to commuting every day, I can see where it would really give you a mental edge having a little help on the hills.

This is great!  Can wait to see it in person.   How did you get your wife to agree to such a purchase?   Did you give her your Hurricane?   [smiley=cheesy.gif]

I gave her my soul. [smiley=evil.gif] No, I just reminded her of the $2000 embroidery machine that collects dust in the back room.  She said it was cool as long as I was really going to use it for my commute.  So far, so good.

Is that a light or machine gun sticking out the front?!?

Yeah, that's kinda hokey isn't it?  Its a Blackburn Voyager 4.0.  1 Watt Luxeon LED putting out 45 lumens but it shure looks like more to me.  Probably because it's so close to the ground so the beam starts sooner.  One of the previous owners replaced the "AA" batteries with four 2500mAh NiMH batteries and the thing seems to last forever.

As for the machine gun, I had to uninstall it.  I was just using it WAY too much in traffic! [smiley=evil.gif]

So how loud is it?  Or do you really notice?

Good looking ride Dan. [smiley=deadhorsebeat.gif]

Thanks.  It doesn't seem all that loud to me.  There's some sprocket noise when you're pedaling unassisted and a little motor noise when you hit the accelerator but none of it seems overbearing to me.  Of course, I worked on jets in the Air Force so opinions may vary.  Lately, I've been listening to music on my stereo bluetooth headphones, so I don't hear any noise at all. Ya ever thought about approaching companies to place ads on it?  Alot of folks look at it.  Why not let the ads pay for your ride?

Fred, the original owner in Florida was trying to put together a website (http://www.humanpoweredmessages.com/more_info.html) to advertise on it.  It also has a link to four pages of pics that show it being built.  I was willing to do it on a velo if I needed it to make payments but now I'm kinda torn.  It's so nice and shiny.
