Title: Need Flower Mound route or map
Post by diannalightning on Oct 20th, 2009, 3:21pm

I have a couple of new riders that want to do about 30 miles in the Flower Mound area.  Since I live in Irving and I do a lot of riding south to Joe Poole or out in the Roanoke area, I don't have any idea about routes.  These two are on DF's if that would make any difference.  Does anyone have a map or route sheet for a short ride in the Flower Mound area?  I have none and don't know where to find any.  I"ve emailed Ray/Angie to see if they know of any routes or maps, but I sure could use some help here.  They want to ride this Saturday, Oct 24th, so I'm hoping that we can come up with something for them.

Thanks for any help. [smiley=dankk2.gif]

If you find someone who knows the area, try using www.ridewithgps.com to map it...

Ray, Mark H., and Mark L. all ride quite a bit in that area, I would think they would have some good suggestions.

Take Care,
Nelson.

Do you want a few hills, lots of hills or tons of hills?

Here is one of the variations that the local group does here on Saturday mornings early am.
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Texas-Flyers-27-mile-Sat-loop
It avoids some of the bigger hills like Hilltop but you could always sidetrack there if someone wants to crawl up a really steep short hill. It starts at downing middle school and does have a fair bit of climbing. There might be a few minor changes to make it somewhat flatter but this route keeps you in the more rural area of flower mound and the surrounding area instead of in the very developed high traffic areas.

They could come out and do the later texas flyers ride which starts at 9 at downing middle school and is an out and back with a break at 11 miles in. They ride a little bit faster then a social group lately but I'd be glad to stay behind with any new folks and even have an upright to blend in that I rode last weekend.
More info on that group is at their web site and the ride page is at http://www.texasflyers.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=45&Itemid=35

I'll be out with them on the 24th both on an early ride that usually starts at 7:30 which is a faster ride and the 9am which is a social ride but a little quicker then a true 10-12mph social ride. They do have regroups and last week we even split up a bit with riders of different levels but someone in each group knew the way well.

Dianna - Mark nailed it!  I read your post last night, but didn't have time to reply.  I was going to say exactly the same thing he did.

Angie and I usually ride with the Flower Mound Social group on Saturday's and Sunday's.  This Saturday, 10-24 we'll be riding in the Springtown t-shirt/pay ride.

The FM Social Group is a fun group.  There are riders that come from the Plano/Frisco area to ride with us becuase (1) we're so much fun, (2) great roads, views, and hills, and (3) did I say how much fun we all are?

Some people just ride the first 11 miles to the coffee shop in Argyle and back.  The vast majority ride a total of 40-50 miles depending on weather and everyone desires.  Avg speed is 14-16, with regroupings at most stop signs.

Thanks everyone for the maps and suggestions.  I'll check with the girls and see what they want to do.  I checked out my DF last night and the right shifter won't work, so guess I'll go to the bike shop today.  Guess I should really ride it more than once in 3 years.  Mark thanks for offering to ride with them--I'll let you know if we're heading that way.  Yes, I'll ride with them also.  This should be interesting.

Mark, thanks for offering to ride with the new riders, but we're going to do a modified Airport Ride and Grapevine Lake trail.  I don't want to hold anyone up on an organized ride, but I see ts doing this ride in the near future.  Enjoy riding tomorrow and thanks for the link to the Texas Flyers.

I've been everywhere in Flower Mound by now, go to www.lifeonabaron.blogspot.com and you'll see a few maps while scrolling down. Tons of places to ride around that area
