Title: Bent tab on aluminum V3
Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Oct 17th, 2009, 3:02pm

Hey, you metalworkers out there...  At some point in the last couple of weeks, Chas tipped over his V3 when the seat was off it, somehow bending the right rear seatstay frame tab outward a few degrees -- to the point where its VERY difficult to get the seat struts pins in matching holes between the left and right struts.

Any suggestions as to a good way to move the tab back into a more vertical position mode?  Gotta be careful, it being aluminum...  I don't have any pics...

If it's just a few degrees...a couple of well placed taps with a small/medium hammer might do it.  Use a rag or something on the metal to keep it from getting too damaged...of course a pic would help.

How about using a large crescent wrench? I have successfully straightened a bent aluminum deraileur tab with a 15" wrench. Kept my fingers crossed and very carefully bent it back straight.

Dittos on the crescent wrench and the crossed fingers. That's my favorite way to return dropouts to parallel after modifying the rear triangle of a bike.

Making a BMX bike into a SWB 'bent requires a lot of work on the rear to make it take a derailler, the last step is to make the dropouts parallel again.

The crescent is probably a better idea.

Thanks for the responses.
The V3 is at PCF.
They said they could fx it.
I'll pick it up Monday and let y'all know.
I do have my fingers crossed.

Chas
