Title: Recent comments while riding Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Oct 4th, 2009, 1:07pm Chas and I went out last Tuesday on the GDB REI ride... Since he's still having some startup balance issues, we just let the main group go, and did our own shortened version out Valley View to Luna and back on Merrill, getting in about 20 miles in an hour and a half. http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae256/pbrown8js/101_4058.jpg http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae256/pbrown8js/101_4064.jpg But along the way, early on, a woman pulls up beside us while we are stopped at a light, and says "WHERE CAN I GET ONE??!!??" 8-) Naturally, I reponded "Plano Cycling, in this area" She said, " I've got carpal tunnel, and some neck issues, and have been thinking about a recumbent -- thanks!" and drove off. Then about two miles from the return, as we were going up Welch, ANOTHER vehicle, that has been following us slowly for several blocks, pulls up beside me, as I'm slowing for the red light... and the driver says, "OK, now let's see what you do when you stop that bike..... OH, you just PUT YOUR FEET DOWN!!!" (Duuuhhhh) And we proceeded to have a 60-second conversation with him, while he sat there in the right-turn-only lane, holding up a couple cars behind him... then he says, "Heck, I didn't even want to turn right, here, but I just wanted to talk to you guys and look at your bikes!!!" And went on his way.... That's one of the few times I can remember TWO drivers stopping to ask questions about recumbents in the space of an hour or so... |
Title: Re: Recent comments while riding Post by Hull 697 on Oct 4th, 2009, 10:00pm At the Corpus Christi ride, after a fairly long discussion on bent pros and cons, the discussee asked about the seat foam, the politely asked, "Can I touch it?" Some folks are amazingly polite and some are amazingly rude. Thankfully, I tend to run in to the polite more often than the rude. |
