Title: Boulderseal? Post by goatstick on Oct 2nd, 2009, 10:31am BTW, I keep hearing comments about the boulderseal on the TTTT course. What are you guys talking about, as I just saw fairly normal chip-seal? The boulderseal I talk about typically cuts your speed to around 12mph (when I could normally do 25) and is so rough that your eyes are jarred to the point where you can't really see the road ahead. The surface looks like either tar was sprayed down and then gravel was thrown out by the shovelfuls fairly randomly, with a lot of loose gravel still around, or they used 3/4-1.5" aggregate and you risk a pinch-flat just riding on the surface. It retains debris between the rocks and you can often see sizeable chunks of broken glass stuck between the rocks. The first case is maybe somewhat rideable, especially with balloon tires but the second really isn't, unless you are running Large Marge's with the snow/sand tires that fit them. If you haven't seen this type of boulderseal that txdot is putting down on roads from SA all through East Tx, just wait. They'll most likely be heading your way soon. |
Title: Re: Boulderseal? Post by shellenefoster on Oct 2nd, 2009, 10:51am The poor Yanks that come to Hell Week have been screaming about road conditions for years. Wait till they get a real dose of this (YIKES!) I didn't think the surface on the TTT course was bad at all, but then, I only did 2 laps around the course [smiley=laugh.gif] Shellene |
Title: Re: Boulderseal? Post by Bud_Bent on Oct 2nd, 2009, 11:34am It's been a month or so since I rode it, but as I recall, the only real boulderseal on the course is a half mile or so just before the Brazos Point turnoff. |
Title: Re: Boulderseal? Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Oct 2nd, 2009, 11:59am I didn't notice chipseal so much as I did the occasional "washboard" surfaces, like just before the halfway point approaching the 56 turn.... PB |
Title: Re: Boulderseal? Post by Killer Bee on Oct 2nd, 2009, 12:38pm The only real chipseal on the course is CR 200, as you're descending county line hill. The section is mild compared to the old TT course in Cleburne. I would challenge anyone to ride any distance/ for any length of time on the old TT course. There are still a few LSR brevets that travel this road(right Bud, Nelson, & Peggy). Not fun. Overall, I would agree with Paul's assessment of the Glen Rose TT course. |
