Title: Wanna try a Cruzbike Sofrider V1?
Post by evblazer on Sep 4th, 2009, 7:30pm

Anyone wanna borrow my Cruzbike Sofrider V1 (prototype?)?  I may bring it to the clown ride on tuesday and perhaps to the picnic but if someone wants to borrow it to get over the learning curve I wanted to extend the offer before I either sell it or convert it to an xtracycle.

It is a pretty nice and interesting ride but it is just too high off the ground for me.  The V1 I believe is about 2" higher then the V2 and the silvio is lower still. I really prefer being hand touching the ground low.

Note: The bike is stock with a triple up front so it has plenty of gearing and is very adjustable. I only have a  double century bag on it so it isn't all loaded down.

I would love to try a MBB FWD 'bent that I didn't make from a discarded BMX bike [smiley=rolleyes.gif] Maybe I can do the Sofrider shuffle and convince people that since even the brain damaged gimp can ride it, then they can too. [smiley=evil.gif]

I found a great deal on a pre-owned Softrider V2, so I decided to try it.  My first ride, I mostly just coasted down hills here in my neighborhood.  My second ride, I decided to try pedaling in circles in the cul-de-sac, and I was ready to sell the thing.  My third ride, I loved it, and really began to get the whole arm/bar/leg/swing rhythm.

The derailleur was messed up when I got it, and I want a computer installed, so I left it at Bikes, Inc. today, and went through withdrawls when I realized I wanted to go for a ride later and it wasn't here.

I guess my whole point is, it takes more than one short test-ride to get what the whole Cruzbike excitement is all about.  Be careful, though.  After getting somewhat used to the Cruzbike, I got back on my Aero and was overcontrolling like crazy for the first mile or two!

bent_eagle good to hear you ended up liking the Sofrider V2 you picked up. It took a number of tries over a few days for me to get it and it is interesting to ride just uncomfortable for me at the moment.
My two current problems are the seat height off the ground and the height the seat back terminates at.
I'm going to try the old pair of sandals I have with bebops to see if that gets me a smidgen better stopping ability since my road shoes are awkward to tiptoe. I really prefer road shoes with speedplays but I had to give those up on the Giro 26 when I road it for basically the same reason.
I may also try upping the seat back height and I read a recent mod that someone did on the silvio to use some aluminum sheeting to do that so I may give it a go.
Unfortunately I missed out on the clown ride after taking the day off. I went to load the car and it was dead. Shorted cell in the battery and of course the 12v battery is some special size that no one stocks.
