Just wondering, I'm thinking of getting one.

I use the Garmin Edge 305, since it also allows me to have route maps on it.

I have the Sigma Monitor. I prefer the simple one that doesn't have any extras on it.

Polar RS800CX. Love it and it has every feature I would ever need. The only reason I did not go Garmin is it wont calculate HR if you are not using GPS. I go to the gym a bit and would miss it.

I don't know which Garmin you looked at, but I use the Edge 305 with my bike on the indoor trainer (no GPS or speed sensor) and I'm able to record my HR with no problems.

Does it just kinda estimate or is it still giving accurate readings. I looked at the 705.

Duhhhh just a typo on my part. It wont estimate calories.

They all just guess for calories anyway, although I think the last I read was that Polar had a closer guess formula if there is such a thing.

I had a 305 and thought it was great.  Got a great deal on a 605 so got rid of the redundant 305, though now I miss the HR functionality.  Oh well.

Actually, I did a calorie comparison between my Edge 305, a Polar 7xx series and my Power Tap.  The Edge and 305 were usually close to each other, while the Polar was off by 20% from the Power Tap.  Maybe the Polar was correct, but the odds are against it in my mind.

Kingjason is correct though, it doesn't record calories when I spin (but it "might" if I used a speed sensor - not sure though).

One of the magazines (Mens Health I think)did a test on the 810I Polar a few years ago against one of the big institute machines that all the pro athletes and Olympians use to test VO2 and assorted other things. The Polar was within .02 percent( I think) of the bazzillion dollar machine. If I can find it I will post it. I do know they were shocked.

I am not bagging on the Garmins they are very cool and the 705 has some amazing GPS features for a bike. Just saying Polar has been around a longggg time doing all the other stuff. The GPS on the Polar is great for hiking and running but I have used it only around 8 times. It only maps out your route on Google chrome it does not give you directions while actually out and about.

I've been using a cheap Timex Ironman with the wristwatch part on the handlebars.  I found out the hard way that parts for the Polar and Garmin are easy to get but everything else is a pain so I'll be going with one of those brands when the battery goes in this one!

I have a sigma sport model that I picked up a performance on clearance last year.
There are a couple streets where it goes to zero but the same places used to zero out my nice wireless computer on my merlin as well as cause my mp3 players radio to almost get drowned out in static on FM regardless of station so it might be something about those streets.
The thing I dislike about it is after 9 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds it zeroes out. Not so much a problem anymore but when I was doing 200ks or 400ks i'd have to split the memory files if I wanted to keep track of anything.  Most folks wouldn't have a problem with 200ks but for 300k+ it would probably be a big annoyance.
Otherwise it seems to work really well.
My wife has some top of the line polar heart rate monitor with a gps that logs where you went which I used on my 400k with no problem and it showed the whole ride which was well over 20 hours.

I have a Sigma BC2006MHR.

Thought it was great for a while.

Now every time I put the HR sensor on the computer starts flashing "to many signals".

Tried all new batteries and such but [smiley=headbang.gif]

When I get a chance I am going to move it up the stem a bit so it is more in line with the HR transmitter and see if that helps.  I just hope if it does help I can find a "sweet spot".  The computer is down low so that the speed sensor would work.

For now... I think its worthless [smiley=chinscratch.gif]

I use the Garmin Fore Runner 50
Fore Runner 50 Link (https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=142&pID=10527)

You can upgrade it to the Edge GPS models.  Or the Fore Runner 405
