Title: New TTTT course ride, Sat Aug 22
Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Aug 4th, 2009, 8:32am

Say, how 'bout we do an exploratory ride of the new TTTT course on Saturday Aug 22?  Same sort of thing we've done before with the Cleburne course -- first lap at a casual pace, just checking it out, with regrouping, take a break after one lap, then do at least a second lap with whomever you want to arrange it with, at whatever speed you like, race-pace or casual...  Then find somewhere for lunch.

8AM rollout out of Glen Rose.

State your intentions and possible 2nd lap pairups here.  ALL WELCOME, RIDE AT YOUR OWN PACE!!!

Paul

That sounds like fun, but at my "casual pace", I'll be going backwards on a couple of those hills.

Unfortunately , that's tax free weekend, so Miss Peggy won't be able to get away from "Thingy's". I will just hang around here & do something I'm sure.

You  guys have fun & let us know what you think of the new course.

Ha! EV you've been on a fair piece of it on the Cleburne 400K this last spring.

It looked somewhat familiar but with the course change I wasn't sure. Good thing it was dark the second half though. All I know is hills. I don't do those anymore  [smiley=twitchy.gif]

I'm scheduling to be down to volunteer and watch y'all do hills though on race days.  [smiley=beer.gif]

Here is updated Bikely Route utilizing the correct Start / Finish location.
When you guys ride it, please let me know what you think about the Grace St turn vs. going to the light on Barnard St / TX-144 (one less turn, but a light).

Mark,

You rode that entire loop when you rode Goatneck last year. Open this link (http://www.thegoatneck.com/directions/index.php) on a separate page, scroll down to the map on the bottom, then compare to the TTTT loop.

There are a couple of hills on the course that will have me doing 5 mph, but nothing as tough as Dinosaur Hill.

Post by evblazer on Aug 6th, 2009, 12:54pm

"Dinosaur Hill"?
i.e. the only hill I had ever walked that wasn't covered with ice [smiley=thumbdown.gif]

Ugh. Well I didn't go back and ride goatneck again this year so maybe I was onto something [smiley=cool.gif]

OOooooh, look at that last 2-3 miles of downhill!!!!   [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif]

Title: Re: New TTTT course ride, Sat Aug 22
Post by Kwijybow on Aug 6th, 2009, 3:54pm

Unfortunately the last few miles are not as fast as you would like it to be because of coming into town, and the turns involved.  The 3 big downhills up to the midway low point are all 40mph+ though.

Take Care,
Nelson.

I think Brian and I will try to make this, probably just do one lap and then we'll go check out some local geology, maybe get back to town in time for lunch.  I'm sure my "really hard ride" is roughly equivalent to your "casual pace" but for 26 miles I think I can keep up!

This is still on for next Saturday...   for those of you who have been down there already, where's the best place for everybody to meet up?

IMHO the best meeting spot is the park where the start/finish will be.  There is shaded parking, and the Sonic and host hotel is directly next door.

This was the second week in a row I rode the course.   This weekend was with my team (Dennis, Jeremy and Herb).  Dennis and I met Friday night to get some night riding in.  Then we road twice on Saturday.

The only dogs we saw were on the first lap Saturday morning, and it was between the start and Nemo (mile 3 to mile 6).  Two dogs at different spots came onto the road, however, neither did much more than bark a little to strut their chest.  No real chasing involved.  I have not seen any dogs on the course other than this experience.

I can't go on 8-22, and hope you all have a fun and rewarding experience.  BTW:  Hammonds BBQ, which is just west of the start/finish line (on hwy 67) is great.  I've been going there for 20 years.

By the way, this get-together isn't just intended for those planning to actually RACE the event...  ANYONE who wants to come down and ride is encouraged and welcome!!!!  C'mon down to GlenRose and do some different terrain!!!   Maps and cuesheets will be available....

Sounds like a good plan!!!!  Thanks, see everybody there, 8AM rollout!

DIRECTIONS: From Cleburne, Texas take U.S. 67 South (west) for about 23 miles to Glen Rose, Texas. After you pass the major intersection of 67 & 144 proceed straight ahead for about 6/10ths of a mile until you see a Sonic Drive Inn on the left. Turn left immediately after the Sonic Entrance in to the park.

Change in plans, Peggy does NOT have to work tax free at "Thingy's" this weekend, so we'll be there Saturday morning riding the course. I'm not hammering ,we'll be there to find our pace to find for the 24 hour event(I have an idea of the pace, but want more laps to confirm).

This looks like a nice, flat route and should be a good tuneup for HHH.

Yeah! We usually launch around 7am weekends to miss most of the August heat. Ride until 10 or so. Love to have more highracers along. Not sure about the routes though. We usually decide just before we launch.
Usually meet in Helotes or the I10/Loop1604 parknride nw of S.A.

It's just a fun ride, anyway. I won't be among those racing in September, either.

I will be there Saturday and will be the token recumbent rider (P-38) from Glen Rose.  I am also the oldest and slowest cyclist in town. Looking forward to meeting you guys.

There may be several DF riders to ride the course since they usually start their Saturday ride from Stumblaster Bicycles at 7:30.  It is amazing to have such a great bike shop that has quality equipment in a town with a population of 2,500.  Joe and Lisa Hill are the owners and they lead a ride everyday before the shop opens.

Next door to the bike shop downtown (we go right by it near the end of the loop) is Storiebook Cafe and Book Store that is a great lunch place.  We also have Riverhouse Grill near downtown and Three Rivers Grill and Bar--right in front of the Comfort Inn which is immediately across Highway 67 from the starting area.

I understand from the maintenance guys that the restrooms at the starting area will be unlocked by 6:30-7:00 am.
