Title: tapped by a car today
Post by Pedalin` Peggy on Jul 12th, 2009, 4:53pm

I know we have all had close calls with cars, but today on an morning training ride I got tapped by a car [smiley=cry.gif]. It was only a glassing hit but it goes to show just how fast things can go bad. The guy in the car only slowed and yelled something at me then turned into Home Depot. I thought he was going to pull in and make sure I was ok ,but no, he drove behind Home Depot and pulled back out on the street. I was lucky no damage to me or the bike.

This is just a reminder that we all need to be so careful on the roads.

Peggy, glad you (and the bike) are unscathed...  Kindly describe the situation as it unfolded, as a cautionary tale....

Steve & I went out this morning for a 30+ mile training ride(started in Frisco & riding over to Mckinney @ 9:00am). As I was approaching a stop light on Virgina Parkway/Custer(retail shopping center/bank entrance on right). I was approaching the lot(to cut through & loop back south on Custer),a car pulled up FAST on me.

The car had a turn lane into the shopping center,I was in the middle lane(not the turn lane),he tapped me as he turned into the shopping center & then yelled something at me(that I cannot repeat) and didn't stop. He nudged me enough to make my bike wobble under me. I un-clipped, and sat up to get more stable.

Steve was just a few hundred feet ahead of me, the guy took off before he turned around to check on me.

The lesson learned for me was to be more careful what time & where I train.

I think a call to the police would have been in order.  I had something kinda of similar happen years ago on a road bike.  I had a woman in a corvette tap me from behind.  She was laughing her rear end of with her 10 year old kid.  I stopped at the nearest payphone and called the cops.
