Title: Popsicle Ride June 30
Post by shellenefoster on Jul 1st, 2009, 7:32am

Good ride with no mechanicals.  But someone spiked those boys wheaties, I think that's the fastest I've ridden on that ride.

Bryan let me borrow his bike while he suffered on his diamond frame.  I learned that the bar end shifters are a BILLION times better than those grip shifters that came on the Corsa.  I like having them in "friction" mode since there are no indexing issues to be dealt with.  Besides, "friction" shifters are what I grew up with.  Overall, I have to recommend the bar end shifters.

Suffered is a good word.  I tried to pull/launch in the areas where I normally move to the front, but having to actually work going downhill sucks, especially on legs that felt they had no idea what they were supposed to do.

It looks like I either need to sell my DF collection, or start riding them more often.

I will add to the "yea" vote for the bar end shifters. After having grip shifters on the Cafe ,Starda & Corsa SS, upgrading to the bar end shifters is one of the better upgrades I've done in a while.

Shellene , a "billion" times better is about where I place the upgrade.

I try and get out on my road bike once and a while hoping to get a better workout. My big problem with going down hill on the road bike is how tipped over forward I am compared to on the recumbent. Going down really steep hills gets pretty scary face first!

Bar ends or Bar ends mounted on thumbies is almost a must for me, or brifters I still kinda like my brifters better. All the bikes I look at for sale I have to add that cost in.
