Title: Anyone want to ride with me this week?
Post by aikigreg on Jun 29th, 2009, 3:12pm

I leave on Sunday for Oregon, and I need to do some short rides multiple times a day till then.  I'd love some company if any of you guys are doing any training rides or if anyone wants to do a Wed. 200k.

I'm planning on doing a 200K Friday, probably Cheeburger to take a look at the newly torn up road.  Also the Phelps are doing Cheeburger on Saturday, and Gary G. looks to be doing Rio Vista Rumble on Friday.  Steve the road tear up affects Bobcat Bite as well.

Take Care,
Nelson.

Just uh don't be foolish like me and try to ride the two miles if it is like it was.

GUNTER TX-- F.M. 121 has seen its better days. The current road that runs from Gunter to Tioga is cracked and crumpled, and has reached the end of its life.

"That road was last rehabbed about 22 years ago, and 20 years is usually the lifespan for roadways before we have to do something to them.” said TXDOT engineer Kevin Harris.

Today, crews were out putting up barricades and getting ready for the reconstruction, that's scheduled to begin on Monday.

"We will actually scarify the entire roadway from grass to grass, so traffic will be running under construction operations on a daily basis." said Harris.

Cory Wynn lives and works on F.M. 121, and he says while the construction might be a hassle, it's worth the inconvenience to get a new road.

"We have to look at the future out here and the safety of the people and it's definitely something that needs to get done." said Wynn.

TXDOT is asking drivers to use caution when traveling through construction zones, and to have patience.

"Follow the signs; be aware that it's going to be an inconvenience for a while. This project is going to start next week, and is scheduled for completion in July of 2010." said Harris.

I'm pretty sure there were no signs warning of the impending construction and how long it was but it was right before mile 19.

I wouldn't mind doing a Friday 200k, but I think I'll skip the gravel roads. Anyone coming south to ride?

EDIT: it looks like a group is riding Peachy Keene on Sunday. Maybe I'll just join them and go fishing Friday instead.

That's great, Paul! Let Pam know over on the LSR google group. She's leading the ride.
