Post by power_bent on Jun 28th, 2009, 4:49pm

Anyone know how I can go about acquiring an V3 steel in a frame set?? I believe I have enough goodies I can put on it.
Thanks Thomas J  [smiley=dbanana.gif]

Any RANS dealer should be able to give you a quote on a V3 frameset.

Yes, it's worth the trip over there to test ride it.  It's a nice ride, and if the riser and handlebar setup don't work for you, there are other combinations that can be used as substitutes.  The V3 I tested had a straight riser, which didn't bring the handlebar grips back far enough.  The angled kind that are seen on the XStream work better.  Be sure to check what maximum width tires can be put on the back, but I'm pretty sure you can go with at least 1.5".   [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I have a V3 and love it. Yes I took off the straight stem and added one with a small angle from Rans and it made a huge difference but I have an arm that was broke in a few places and doesnt straighten out like it used to. LOL. I think the X-Stream riser is to angled and will interfere with your thighs while turning. Price was like 15 bucks pluss shipping but dealer may swap out. Rated for like 325 too so us big guys are safe. Also with disc brakes you can put all sorts of varieties on tires and wheels.

Me and Wife went to Fort Worth City Cyclist yesterday afternoon and look at recumbent bikes. Well I have to tell you that the V-3 is not the bike for me. The seat is to high. The tour easy bike was great as for seat height. Sat on the Rans F-5 , I was suprise that I fit on it with the 650 wheels. with me sitting up or laying in seat my feet sits flat on the ground. So now I'm still looking.

That's not too surprising, I suppose -- my "x-seam" is about 45" (~31" inseam), and I can just flatfoot on a V3 myself.  But that's why we test ride, no?  At least C.C. had the bikes on the floor!!!  Besides the Tour Easy, You might also consider the Stratus or Stratus XP, you should be able to reach quite easily with that one, if you like the long wheelbase style.

Hey Paul, my x-seam is 40.5 and the in-seams is about 28.5, that is the reason i like the x-stream but it al bike. The only other bike I'm looking at is the Lightfoot Cycles. They have over 300 lbs rated bikes and it real similar to the X-stream style bike. The seat height is 22" and the bb is 23.5 and it has dual 26" wheels. It weighs 33lbs. It called the Traveler bike from Lightfoot Cycles. Mike st CC said that he goona try to get some of their bikes.

Lightfoot sounds like a good option, and they've got a wide variety of bikes!
