Anybody have an idea of the difference between the Carbent and the Bachetta CA2.0????

Both are good bikes.  If you want a totally custom fit and a bike that's several pounds lighter, go with the carbent.  If you want adjustability in the seat, get the bacchetta.  The carbent has a more closed hip angle due to a higher bottom bracket.

My recommendation though if you go with the carbent is to make darn sure you know exactly what seat angle and such you want FOR SURE.  Cause once it's built, it's set.  My further recommendation would be that if you're going to drop that wad of cash on the carbent, drop a little more and fly out to the SoCal Recumbent rally and ride with the bunches of recumbents (over a 100 last year) and Dana can take the time to put you on one and personally fit you perfectly.

Mine is custom in most every detail, including headtube drilling and componentry.

John, as Greg mentioned previously, both are great bikes(I haven't ridden a Carbent,so I can't speak to that bike specifically). I have ridden the CA 2.0 during the past month(I've logged approx.600-700 miles on the bike) & love the bike.

One of the selling points to me for the CA 2.0 would be re-sale potential. If for some reason you wanted to sell the bike after you were done riding it(weather a large or medium frame), you could easily do so(based on the bikes adjustability to the rider). A custom is just that, custom to that one rider.

You can look up the specs & compare the bikes(you don't need others to interpret that data). Go to the Bacchetta website(http://www.bacchettabikes.com/forum2/) & see what other cyclists are saying about the CA 2.0, don't take my word.

It's like deciding between a ferrari and a porsche - it's hard to go wrong.

Ask John about the CA 2.0 while he's here.

Well I made a deposit on a CA2.0, now I have to decide between a medium and a large.

If you're worried about reaching the ground, go with a large.

Wouldnt' a large mean you would need to position the seat more forward making it higher or is the large naturally lower?
or am I just completely lost.

yeah I had that a little backwards.  I am in-between medium and large, so I originally bought a medium.  I had to move the seat so far back I couldn't reach the handlebars.  Of course, I have arms like a t-rex.

I often wonder if I would have been better off with a medium. My seat was pretty close to the pulley mounting when I last had it. I always wondered on a medium if I wouldn't have had as much difficulty at stops. [smiley=shrug.gif]

So if you are near the overlap try to test ride both with the recline that you are going to use.

JS, congratulations. You'll be tearing up HHH with your new bike. Good for you. What size frame is your Giro? If all else fails, ask the other JS.

My Giro is a medium but I am unable to lean the seat back as far as I wanted.

We could get together and try each others Giros.  Should be pretty close except I have Bar end shifters.

BTW:    John Guillard indirectly talked me out of getting bar ends on the CA2.

Not to confuse the issue, John just installed bar end shifters on my SS. The CA 2.0 I was riding had bar end shifters. Like most things, it's an individual preference. I was never fan of grip shifters. With bar ends, it gives you more area to grip/put your hands.

I agree with you on the bar ends. For now I am going to go with the grip shift.  May have to change later. I might even change it over to "hamster" steering.

I test rode a large Corsa this morning and decided to order a large.

I love my bar ends on paul thumbies setup, but when you can buy grip shifter's so cheaply it becomes hard to justify the extra expense.

grip shifter set new can be had for $35-40
and the thumbies and bar ends are more that $100.00 at best.

Take Care,
Nelson.

Personally, I prefer grip/twist shifters...  it's an instantaneous click, as opposed to having to shift your hands down to the levers...   but, whatever...   [smiley=shrug.gif]
