Title: HHH Hotter 'N Hell Hundred - Who is in? Post by evblazer on May 28th, 2009, 1:30pm Ok so the Hurricane's are in for the 100. Hopefully this year I won't have my tire seperate from my bead and cause slow down the mrs. What is up with me and tires!? http://www.hh100.org/ HHH 2009 is Saturday August 29, 2009. Witchita Falls, TX We registered right after it opened up so hopefully we got a lowish number again or at least numbers in sequence. So who is in for what and when y'all going up? |
Title: Re: HHH Hotter 'N Hell Hundred - Who is in? Post by aikigreg on May 28th, 2009, 5:05pm It's a must-do, of course. I need to get my spot at the church sewn up. |
Title: Re: HHH Hotter 'N Hell Hundred - Who is in? Post by jcsadowski on May 28th, 2009, 5:46pm This year I am going to FINISH. |
Title: Re: HHH Hotter 'N Hell Hundred - Who is in? Post by FlyingLaZBoy on May 28th, 2009, 8:21pm Lynn and I will probably carpool again, staying at the Babtist church, although I haven't sent in a reservation yet. I may do the 65 mile route, just to go through the AF base... THEN detour back to the Beer Stop!!!! |
Title: Re: HHH Hotter 'N Hell Hundred - Who is in? Post by Bud_Bent on May 28th, 2009, 9:19pm Yes, I was just thinking I need to email and check on a reservation for the gym. Hopefully, Rose won't have any broken bones this year, and can participate, too. |
Title: Re: HHH Hotter 'N Hell Hundred - Who is in? Post by jcsadowski on May 28th, 2009, 9:21pm I expect I will do my usual: Get up at 3:00 a.m. and drive up. It seems to work the best for me. |
Title: Re: HHH Hotter 'N Hell Hundred - Who is in? Post by catroad254 on May 29th, 2009, 8:14pm I'm planning to do the 100 again this year. The first year I went to WF I rode the 65 mi. - the ride through the base was an incredible experience. I wish they would find a way to route the 100 milers through the base too. Corsa Ken |
Title: Re: HHH Hotter 'N Hell Hundred - Who is in? Post by Opus the Poet on May 29th, 2009, 11:15pm Since I can't ride more than 40 miles without serious injury (you try sitting with the skin rubbed off your tail bone) I haven't been able to get much in the way of fitness this year. I can't see going all the3 way to WF just to do the 25 mile ride. [smiley=runover.gif] |

Title: Re: HHH Hotter 'N Hell Hundred - Who is in? Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Jun 1st, 2009, 1:55pm I've emailed the LBC reservation form to Bud so he can post a downloadable version for people to print out and mail in... |
Title: Re: HHH Hotter 'N Hell Hundred - Who is in? Post by Bud_Bent on Jun 1st, 2009, 10:08pm You can find a copy of the reservation form here (http://rbentonline.org/Attachments/hhhreg.jpg). [ For the less technically experienced, you have a couple of options when you go to the form - 1) hit "File / Page setup" at the top of your Internet browser, then find a magnification that makes it fit onto the paper (~60%?), then print it, or 2) "right click" on the photo of the form, and "Save Image" as a photo on to your own computer -- then you can print it out from there, with the same magnifcation adjustments. When I sent mine in, I noted on the form that I was part of the RBENT group, but that the reservation was only for myself -- Paul ] |
Title: Re: HHH Hotter 'N Hell Hundred - Who is in? Post by Tim C. on Jun 2nd, 2009, 9:27pm Can someone give a general overview of the Lamar Baptist Church option? Cost, what is provided, what is not, is it possible to sleep, etc? Thanks. |

Title: Re: HHH Hotter 'N Hell Hundred - Who is in? Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Jun 2nd, 2009, 10:14pm Bring earplugs, because the bathroom door BOOMS whenever anyone goes in there, and I'd even suggest an eye mask to block out the light from the emergency exit signs... Beyond that, it's free, comfortable, and very convenient!!! |

Title: Re: HHH Hotter 'N Hell Hundred - Who is in? Post by Hurricane Dan on Jun 7th, 2009, 12:02am [smiley=yawn.gif] 3 am?! No wonder you didn't finish last year! Call me a glutton for punishment but I'm game. Will there be any carpooling going on? Hint Hint.... |

Actually I feel I didn't finish because I didn't do the usual and get up at 3:00 a.m. The mandatory breakfast stop at the IHOP at Mckinney was what I missed the most. I am always open to car pooling. |
Title: Re: HHH Hotter 'N Hell Hundred - Who is in? Post by Killer Bee on Jun 7th, 2009, 12:31pm Peggy & I will be riding & have reserved our spot at Lamar Baptist Church. JS & SK briefly mentioned possibly riding this year. |

Title: Re: HHH Hotter 'N Hell Hundred - Who is in? Post by Tim C. on Jun 8th, 2009, 11:27am I just sent an email to susan@lbcwf.org with all the pertinent info requested on the form and she emailed me right back that I had a spot. I am going to sign up for the 100K since I haven't been riding much. My rack will hold another bike for a like-minded rider. I am taking Friday off and going up in the afternoon probably to mill around some. |

(oops, forgot). Anywho, I emailed the church and I'm just waiting for confirmation. Tim, I might check with you closer to the ride and see if anyone's called shotgun yet. I just hope I can get this Vision together so I can train on it. I'm trying to get a hold of a guy whose selling a set of rotor cranks. My health issues are finally gone and have stepped up my weekly riding to 75+ miles again at last. Seems to me that the heat is a bit more intense early on than last year. The first 99F day I rode with Eddie in RLP and because I didn't bring enough water with me I almost boinked. [smiley=embarassed.gif] So I vowed to not let that happen again if I could avoid it. Extra ice water and paper towels to cool down with are with me for the remainder of the summer. My Cycle Genius has gone through a refurbishing as well, New Marathons fore and aft and replacement SRAM 3.0 shifters to replace the worn out originals. I even spray painted the shells on my Wellago SPDs to a close matching Red. Doen't improve them but look pretty cool. I want to be ready to enjoy the 100K regardless of the temps and just hope nothing unexpected happens to waylay my plans. I wonder if Flying Lazyboy will get to test a new RANS over the 100 mile course? It sure would be a good proving ground. |

Title: Re: HHH Hotter 'N Hell Hundred - Who is in? Post by goatstick on Aug 13th, 2009, 9:45pm Hwy 471, where they hold the Texas State Time Trials (the last two weeks) is beautifully paved over the exact length of the time trial route and no further. I highly suspect whomever runs the time trials there had a large hand in making sure that part of 471 was repaved properly (with a decent shoulder and markings for cyclists) just for that reason. Might be worth having the TTTT admin contact them to find out how they did it, if that is the case. |
Title: Re: HHH Hotter 'N Hell Hundred - Who is in? Post by evblazer on Aug 14th, 2009, 2:38pm Well.. I'll be working on my little 8 rose garden for HHH. Hopefully it won't be too hot but it should be good. I was trying to convince my wife that we could put a hurricane like sculpture of some kind in the middle but so far that is a no go. I mean people have wagon wheels and one guy down the street has some really really old john deer tractor that he puts a scarecrow in october and santa on in december so I'm just trying to fit in really :-) |

One of the organizers last year talked to my wife and I after the ride. He said they were seriously considering having the recumbents start with the DF group they would be with and they were going to check tags to see what category you were in for the front groups (burners, hopefuls etc) No idea who the guy was or if they did it but based on the FWBA maybe. We just got our forms and there was nothing about recumbent/tandem at the front in the map which I thought there was last year. Oh and we have #498 and #499. |
Title: Re: HHH Hotter 'N Hell Hundred - Who is in? Post by evblazer on Aug 19th, 2009, 3:17pm Just went to FWBA and it sounds pretty official. Pasted for thos who aren't on their list. "Is it true that the tandems and recumbants are not going to have a place in the start staging and will have to line up with the mass? Correct, they will line up with their distance/pace groups. A numbers of the tandems spoiled it for everyone by insisting that friends on singles start with them at the front. Since the start line has been segregated by time and the traffic islands have been removed, those two major hazards no longer require an advance start for the tandems. There were numerous tandems that we observed starting with their time groups last year that safely navigated the start line and the congestions early in the ride. Thanks for your inquiry, Chip Ben J. Title: Re: HHH Hotter 'N Hell Hundred - Who is in? Post by Killer Bee on Aug 19th, 2009, 4:23pm If that's the case, Peggy & I are NOT making the trip. We have too much invested(financially-hotels, coaching, equipment, for the TTT's) & hours on the bike to being taken out in an accident(for what essentially will be a training ride for us)at H'NH. I've personally seen too many accidents in large packs at H'HN for a variety of reasons. I'm sure there will be others that jump ahead of the start, but that's no really cool. The year Peggy rode her DF & I rode my 'bent(when the ride started 'bents'/tandems first), I waited for her at rest stop #2 for 45 minutes(that's how congested it was). That was not fun. The large packs at this event have always put me on edge. |
Title: Re: HHH Hotter 'N Hell Hundred - Who is in? Post by Killer Bee on Aug 19th, 2009, 4:25pm The new starting procedure was stated on the Bacchetta forum from someone who had received their packet from H'NH. It sounds like a done deal, unfortunately. |

It's fun, but I was nervous about everyone else the entire ride. On a good note, for those that are opting out, there's a 300K on Saturday that should be just enough to get you tired onough for some beers after!! Title: Re: HHH Hotter 'N Hell Hundred - Who is in? Post by richardr on Aug 24th, 2009, 9:29pm I won't be going to the HHH this year. Title: Re: HHH Hotter 'N Hell Hundred - Who is in? Post by Hurricane Dan on Aug 24th, 2009, 9:38pm Richard, I know Tom is talking about going but his wife doesn't have a space reserved in the church. The ~7' x 10' space allows you enough room for your bag, sleeping bag/cot and bike. We sleep the women upstairs in the aerobic room. We have a room to lock bikes up, if you desire. You will have access to showers, ice and a microwave. We will provide you a map that shows how to get from our facility to the race. We are 1.78 miles from the race start. ( 6 minutes driving time) And there is no cost to stay here. We will also have church staff here the whole time to help keep an eye on things and monitor all people entering the building." |
