Title: Re: Memorial Day photos Post by evblazer on May 26th, 2009, 10:15am Is that what happens when an SXP has a run in with a snake? [smiley=puking.gif] Save the snakes ;) http://lh5.ggpht.com/_GIFgiCQnK-8/ShwGFJIcVDI/AAAAAAAAAcw/c4Zh5bUfPV0/s400/May09CopperHead.jpg Disclaimer: I'd suggest avoiding the above pictured live snake on the end of snake tongs. Of course I can't tell the difference between the two so I'll just avoid all of them squished or not. Look like y'all had a good time. All I got to do on memorial day was watch some bike ride through the 4 way intersection in front of my house. I did spread some more mulch though yum :) |

Title: Re: Memorial Day photos Post by shellenefoster on May 26th, 2009, 4:28pm First pic looks like a rat snake. Perfectly harmless and a good snake, sorry he was squished. Is that second pic a copperhead? My daddy picked one of those up and suffered for a very long time because of it. Poor pops got bit on the trigger finger. Horrible place to get bit. Shellene |
Title: Re: Memorial Day photos Post by evblazer on May 26th, 2009, 4:36pm Yes the second one was identified as a Copperhead and that is my wife holding the camera and the other end of the snake tongs while going about her normal day making sure other people don't get bit on their trigger fingers [smiley=wink.gif] |
Title: Re: Memorial Day photos Post by FlyingLaZBoy on May 26th, 2009, 5:27pm A passing car apparently did in the one in the street, we just happened to encounter it that morning -- but it was about 4+ feet long, based upon the comparison to my shoe!!! |
Title: Re: Memorial Day photos Post by Kwijybow on May 26th, 2009, 6:19pm Wow Shellene, that's interesting, my father also got bit by a copperhead, and had a pretty bad reaction! About all I see where I currently live are rat snakes, but there are a lot of copperheads around my Mom's house in Alabama, that and timber rattlers. I was hiking below the bluff on her property (she lives on a mountain) one winter and came upon a den with what must have been a hundred rattlers inside. You can ask Steve about my bike racing and rattlesnake story! Take Care, Nelson. |
Title: Re: Memorial Day photos Post by aikigreg on May 26th, 2009, 6:46pm I shot a 6 foot timber ratller with a bow once. It was good eating, and the rattle currently adorns my walking staff. |

Who are you "Jeremiah Johnson" ? Where's your bear skin coat ? Raccoon hat ? Is the Walking staff carved from a Moose leg? |
Title: Re: Memorial Day photos Post by aikigreg on May 26th, 2009, 10:27pm I'm an Eagle scout, from Kentucky no less. I'm not Jeremiah Johnson, I'm Dan'l Boone! |

Title: Re: Memorial Day photos Post by shellenefoster on May 27th, 2009, 7:34pm nope Nelson, I gotta hear your rattlesnake and racing story from you. That means you need to ride the 200k this weekend? :D |
Title: Re: Memorial Day photos Post by evblazer on May 27th, 2009, 8:31pm no no.. It's Rbent ride weekend. Don't go steeling Nelson :'( |
Title: Re: Memorial Day photos Post by Kwijybow on May 27th, 2009, 9:24pm Alas, I will likely be doing a very early 100K or so and then yard work this weekend. Also Shellene I usually see you disappearing up road as we pull out of the parking lot! :) Take Care, Nelson. |
Title: Re: Copperheads Post by goldrushdave on Jun 11th, 2009, 4:15pm [smiley=shocked.gif] There are definitely copperheads on the White ROck Trail. I and several others have seen one. I last saw one West side of the lake on the trail that starts around the 7-11, about a mile from there near one of the bridges. |
Title: Re: Memorial Day photos Post by irodguy on Jun 11th, 2009, 10:25pm Argh, I don't like spiders are snakes... |
Title: Re: Memorial Day photos Post by evblazer on Jun 12th, 2009, 8:59am Spiders? (on the braking surface near the presta valve) http://lh6.ggpht.com/_GIFgiCQnK-8/SjJe1INTgmI/AAAAAAAAAgs/wjAa73xz4fk/s400/Spider.jpg Last week when I went to pick up my wife at that Animal Shelter this little spider wanted a ride home, or perhaps I picked him up along the way and hadn't noticed. |
