Title: Tulsa Tough May 30 and 31
Post by aikigreg on May 14th, 2009, 12:22pm

I'm considering this ride, which actually spans three different days in Scenic Oklahoma!  [smiley=chinscratch.gif]

Friday event night, and Saturday and Sunday have routes of roughly 30 miles (50k), 60 miles (100k), and 100 miles.  It's definitely an event like the Hotter N Hell.  There are crit races each day to watch, live music, and the whole shebang.  Those who complete both 100 mile rides Sat and Sun in under 5 hours get a special jersey.  That's what I'll be striving for.  We'll see if it happens.

I'm looking for an excuse to go.  Anyone up for it?

Welp, I just registered myself and Alexis, so I can't back out now.  I'm dubious as to my chances, since there are some hills, and the sub five hour centuries I had at the HHH were hard enough.  On the other hand, with a calm day or wind help to my back, and smooth pavement I have a chance.  Pray for me that the chipseal gods have not discovered the land of Tulsa!

I worked in Tulsa for several months 4-5 years ago, but I don't think this ride existed at the time.  Looking at the route map, I think I've ridden portions of the Sunday ride, north and west of downtown.  There was a regularly scheduled event every Wednesday evening that left from downtown, 100s of cyclist would show up.  Mostly I left my recumbent in Midland and rode my DF in Tulsa, mainly because there were a couple of BIG hills west of downtown I didn't think there was any way I'd get up on a bent.  My legs were rubber after climbing them on the DF.  But, it's one of my all-time favorite 25 mile routes, tough but very scenic, reasonably flat and fast on the return trip along the river.
At that time wasn't much recumbent community I ever noticed there.  I'll see if I can't arrange my schedule to go next year if you bring back a good report.
Have fun!

Greg, you'll do fine(Strong like Bull). We'll certainly be thinking about you Saturday & Sunday. If you get a chance, ask Mark M about the route. Also, Bud was born/raised(I think in the Tulsa area) ,he might know the area(hills).

Go get 'em.

I don't think Mark has ridden TT, BUT he has riding friends that do the crits at TT.

G'luck Greg. Hopefully they put roadsigns out for those rough patches in addition to what is on the online maps. Gravel around the turn at the bottom of descent! Oh well I guess when isn't there  :(

From BROL looks like there might not that many bents online who will be going. I'm going to put it on my calendar for next year though sounds like a fun trip.

Welp, I was miserable and sick yesterday instead of getting to train.  my guts are water and I've lost 5 pounds, all of it water I'm sure.  Stayed home sick today.  Oh well, at least I'll have a little less weight climbing in tulsa tomorrow morning, right?

Apparently Floyd Landis is coming to race as well.  That should be cool.
