Title: Caffeine Post by Pedalin` Peggy on Apr 15th, 2009, 9:12pm Today as I was getting ready for my 5 mile commute to work I got out me water bottle and instead of filling it with water for the short ride ,I filled it with coffee. As I was sipping coffee from my polar water bottle I thought I'm so addicted to caffeine. We all have our vises. I have a cup that reads "with enough caffeine I think I could rule the world" Caffeine's not that bad for you right ;) Pedlin Peggy |

Title: Re: Caffenine Post by aikigreg on Apr 15th, 2009, 9:51pm Thank god mine is sex..... [smiley=evil.gif] I'd be okay with you ruling the world, Pegs. Justice would be serv-ed! |

1) I thought your commute was only TWO miles? 2) I've DEFINITELY put coffee into a Polar bottle for the chilly morning commute!!! Attagirl!!!!! |
Title: Re: Caffenine Post by Opus the Poet on Apr 16th, 2009, 1:49am Since I started the new job I have discovered the only occupation that drinks more coffee than Computer Geek is Journalism. I'm now a journalist formerly a computer geek. |
Title: Re: Caffenine Post by AustinSkater on Apr 16th, 2009, 6:08am I broke my caffeine habit over Lent (other than two bottles of tea driving to rides). Prior to that I would drink far too much Diet Dr Pepper, never being a big fan of coffee. Opus, you missed one, to be the ultimate coffee hound you would have needed to have been in the military before being a computer geek (or both at the same time). |

Pedlin' Peggy - first of all, and most importantly is your coffee cup PRETTY? Do you like iced coffee? Just like we do at LSR controls, I often put iced coffe in my polar bottle. Addiction, nah.... |
Title: Re: Caffenine Post by shellenefoster on Apr 16th, 2009, 7:47am oh man, I love the caffeine on those overnight rides. But the scary thing is that I probably have to give it up for good. Y'all will have to yell at me when I fall asleep on the bike, so drink enough for me too ;) |

Coffee? Eww. When I was back at Clarkson we'd sit in the computer lab and down multiple 2 liter bottles of code red each in overnight sessions when we were either designing software of playing with molecular structures on the really expensive machines. One guy was a heavy jolt drinker but that stuff was gross. Yeah yeah no liquids in the lab :P Same thing in the server rooms at Verizon and Hitachi Metals of American it was Regular Dew or Code Red no coffee except the intern from Japanese Parent Company for Hitachi. I'm not allowed caffiene now, nor was I then, so it is very rare that I have any these days. I do however know someone who goes through oh 4 gallons of diet coke a week and if it wouldn't go flat on a bike I'm sure they'd have it then too. |
Title: Re: Caffenine Post by Bud_Bent on Apr 16th, 2009, 8:54am I've been a coffee and tea junkie for many years, but alas, my coffee and tea are both decaf these days. |

Now that you're on a bent, how will we know if you fall asleep? :) I never picked up the coffee habit. I drink lots of green tea, which is naturally caffeinated, but in small amounts. I *am* addicted to carbonation, which means I usually have a diet coke a day. I try to keep my overall intake low, so that on the bike when I do have a monster or something it has more of an effect when I need it. |

Title: Re: Caffeine Post by jcsadowski on Apr 16th, 2009, 1:55pm When I was in the Army I could drink coffee and go to bed. Now I can only drink one cup of regular coffee in the morning. After that it is decaff. Doctor told me that it builds up over the years and when you get older you become sensitive to caffeen. |

26l01, tactical microwave communications repair. I fixed the phones between the switchboard and the satellite. I always had the mid shift. But that was during the first term of the Reagan administration. I didn't get the computer geek job until the last term of the Clinton administration. |
Title: Re: Caffeine Post by robert.j on Apr 16th, 2009, 4:08pm I seem to remember a Bicycling magazine article from years ago about the impact of caffiene on cyclists. If I remember right, it was pretty positive about it. I think some energy bars contain significant amounts of caffiene because of that. |
Title: Re: Caffeine Post by jcsadowski on Apr 16th, 2009, 4:55pm I read that to get the maximum benefit from caffeine in a race you need to abstain for 3-6 months prior. I just can't go without my coffee!!! |
Title: Re: Caffeine Post by Hurricane Dan on Apr 17th, 2009, 12:05pm Abstaining probably makes a BIG difference. Ever since I stopped drinking soda, I lost my caffeine tolerance. If I put coffee in my water bottle, I'd have to attach a tube to something else! [smiley=chinscratch.gif] Now I wonder if anyone's tried that on the RAAM. |

Title: Re: Caffeine Post by larry on Apr 30th, 2009, 9:01pm Coffee is great, Peggy. Mine is fresh-ground and black. Used to use a French press until I found out that using the paper drip filters would improve my cholesterol numbers. Sacrificed the flavor for my heart! The pains of passing years, ugh! :-[ |
Title: Re: Caffeine Post by jcsadowski on May 1st, 2009, 11:31am When I do the clown ride I do not eat or drink before leaving the parking lot at LBJ. It is hard to get my heart rate much over 110. After I stop at Barbecs and drink two cups of coffee it is hard to get my heart rate under 130. |

Title: Re: Caffeine Post by Richard on May 6th, 2009, 10:02pm Coffee is the elixer of life. I can hardly wake up without it. Man, I want some now! ;) RichardC |
Title: Re: Caffeine Post by evblazer on May 6th, 2009, 10:15pm The only thing that really wakes me up lately is the clicking of strap on my road shoes. Without it I'm really groggy all day long. [smiley=yawn.gif] |
Title: Re: Caffeine Post by aikigreg on May 7th, 2009, 9:24am I loved that about commuting. I always felt best on the days I commuted, even though It was only a half hour ride. |
Title: Re: Caffeine Post by larry on May 7th, 2009, 11:20am Have to agree about commuting. I feel better when I get to the office and better when I get home when I have pedaled my way there. [smiley=thumbsup.gif] Being a new home owner, I can't get away for the weekend recreational rides (enslaved to a yard invaded by henbit!!) but the rides to the office are pleasant. Once I got the right clothing, the weather hasn't slowed me down much either. Boy is it WINDY here!! I keep telling myself that the recumbent is better going into a headwind but 20 mph in the face is the pits. |
