Title: Lancaster Rally ride
Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Apr 11th, 2009, 4:13pm

Had an excellent overall turnout for the Lancaster Rally this morning -- was a bit chilly, but minimal wind...  Here are photos of the 'bent gang that I encountered during the pre-ride meandering:

Not a 'bent, but still cool...

The mystery rider is Bill Coleman. He is a rbent member. I go to church with him, he introduced me to recumbent bikes 8 years ago.  The ride was great!! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Great photos, Paul! And the weather cooperated this year. Looks like it was a great ride.

We had a great ride on the 23 mile route.  Vicky rode her Stratus for the first time on open roads.  She did very well and only had to walk the steep hill at about mile 5.  The drivers were very courteous.  Is Lancaster known as a bicycle friendly community?

Yep, that's me in the middle and Jay on the red actionbent.   [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif]

I was pushing a bit in the beginning and my left knee started bothering me around 30 miles but I finished.  High point for me was that one hill where I hit 43.6 mph!   ;D  Didn't even have to downshift coming up the other side!   [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

That hill at Mile 5 is definitely a toughie...  (Sorry for the flashback, Vicki!!   [smiley=evil.gif])

And Dan, I'm thinking that fast downhill you encountered was shortly after leaving RS 2, after Sugar Ridge Road?  Although there's another one or two possibilities along the way....

Yeah, that's the one, just after RS2.  I likey go fast.  [smiley=evil.gif] I was feeling good at mile 5 so I pushed up that hill with a couple sprockets to spare but the last two smaller hills before RS2 seemed to be the killers for me.  Unfortunately, my tendons don't want to keep up with the development of my muscles so I should probably take it easy for a few days.  I rode hills like this in Mesquite/Balch Springs and maintained a 15mph average over 24 miles, and I've ridden 50 miles in a day before, but the combination of 42 miles AND the hills was just too much for me with my whole eight weeks of experience.  [smiley=injured.gif]

Pain sucks!  I want to go fast NOW!   [smiley=headbang.gif]

I did the 63 mile route.  I saw a few other bents at rest stop #2.  It was a little chilly most of the morning.  I did fine until some hills in the middle of the route sapped my strength and I dogged the last 25 miles.   [smiley=injured.gif]

Hey Paul, Yes I was a little late.  I arrived about 8:30am which gave me enough time to register and get in with the 60 miler group.  No time for socializing.  I didnt roll back into Lancaster until a little after 2:00pm
