Title: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Feb 8th, 2009, 8:22am Just some advance notice -- The Lancaster Rally ride is April 11th, the Saturday of Easter Weekend this year. We've had some very nice 'bent turnout in recent years!!! :) [smiley=dankk2.gif] I believe that this is also considered an "MS150 training ride"... <<Make plans to enjoy a fabulous day of Texas springtime cycling in the luscious and calm countryside south of Dallas! For the 11th consecutive year, the Greater Dallas Bicyclists, together with the City of Lancaster, is staging the Lancaster Country Ride on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 9 am. Lancaster is a mere 15 minutes from downtown Dallas. Join us as we cycle through the scenic countryside of Lancaster and surrounding areas. The routes traverse a variety of terrain, from flats to rolling hills, with a few challenging climbs. Rest stops every 10 or 12 miles with water, sports drink, fruit, etc. The wildflowers are typically in full bloom in April and our routes feature picturesque meadows with dense concentrations of Bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrush, and other colorful spring flowers. Start/Finish: On-site registration and breakfast begins at 7 am. Ride starts at 9 am from the gazebo in the historic Lancaster town square off Main Street and Dallas Avenue. After the ride, stick around with other cyclists to enjoy the festivities on the square. Mileage options: 23, 42 and 63 miles, staggered start for safety. We have scouted and ridden the routes to ensure smooth roads and scenic countryside for all bicyclists to enjoy. The 42 and 63 mile options take you directly through the Bluebonnet Trial on beautiful and hilly Sugar Ridge Road. NOTE: GDB requires helmets to be worn during the ride. Price: $20 for pre-registration (postmarked by March 25th), and $25 thereafter . Breakfast: Come early to purchase ($6) pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice from the Boy Scouts. They will be at the First United Methodist Church, 201 South Dallas Avenue, across the street from the town square starting at 7am. Directions to Ride: To get to the start from I-20, take exit #470 and go south on Lancaster Rd (Hwy 342). Lancaster Rd becomes Dallas Ave. Continue 4.5 miles to the town square.>> |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by slowpoke on Feb 8th, 2009, 8:37pm It sounds good I have ridden the Tour Dallas the last three years I think it's time for a change. |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Feb 8th, 2009, 9:14pm Oh, it's DEFINITELY a change from Tour Dallas... It'll challenge you -- the last ~18 miles of the ~42 and ~60 mile versions are somewhat hilly, and typically into the (north) wind... But it's a GOOD challenge, and it's not a race... |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by kingjason on Feb 9th, 2009, 4:10pm LOL You guys are coming to my little city huh. Yeah I did'nt get to work it last year I was on duty. I worked it the year before and had to get my front squad to speed up as the riders were bunching up behind him. We usually lead it out of town then the race producers take over. Get there early there is a heck of a turn out and limited parking. It is hard to believe that Lancaster is as rough as it is because the south side of town is so pretty. We do have a new court building where my office is just west on RedBud that would be good to park at. There are two parkinglots and we are not there on weekends. Actual address is 220 W. Main, Lancaster TX, 75146, if you are going to google it. |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Feb 9th, 2009, 6:39pm Didn't know you were employed in that fashion, KJ... the GDB definitely appreciates everything the City does to help the Rally!!!! I typically work one of the rest stops -- this year it will probably be #2. |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by kingjason on Feb 9th, 2009, 9:54pm If I am asked to work I may just have to slide down to rest stop two and visit. Back when I was losing all my weight I got much ridicule for rolling around on my trike and or road bike with my sexy spandex on. LOL |

Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by aikigreg on Feb 18th, 2009, 9:00am I'll probably do it this year. I'll be doing a lot more shorter faster rides this time around... |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Mar 9th, 2009, 9:01pm Hey, Peggy -- Would Thingy's Sporting Goods be interested in adding a "% off" coupon to our goodie bag for the Lancaster Rally? We would need 1200 of them, before March 29th.... Paul |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by aikigreg on Mar 31st, 2009, 11:57am Bump. Alexis and I both are still planning to attend! |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by mleuck on Apr 1st, 2009, 5:16pm Paul are you still manning a rest stop and if so which one? |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by Pedalin` Peggy on Apr 1st, 2009, 9:37pm Paul: thingy's Sporting Goods would love to put coupons in the bags .I could get them to you first of next week. Thanks for thinking of thingy's. Peggy |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by aikigreg on Apr 1st, 2009, 9:57pm Paul is always thinking about his thingy! |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Apr 2nd, 2009, 9:30am The 10-day ahead weather forecast looks promising at the moment, for the Lancaster Rally... http://www.greaterdallasbicyclists.com/ Unfortunately, I won't be working a rest stop after all this year, something's come up. However, I'll probably be doing some sort of other job in the Lancaster Square leading up to the ride start, so I'll keep my eyes out for the 'bent crew!!!!!!! I'll also be doing pre-reg packet pickup duty at PCF on Thursday the 9th from 4 to 7. Peggy, all the packets have been stuffed already... too late for Thingy's, this year. Paul |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by aikigreg on Apr 2nd, 2009, 9:32am Shall we think about a mass bent start? |

Wouldn't see why not -- they would like the 60+ milers to line up ahead of the others, but there's no hard and fast rule... It's a "ride," not a "race".... |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Apr 8th, 2009, 9:35am I'll be working the registration table this year, instead of RS #2... |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Apr 8th, 2009, 10:23pm Early packet pickup for the Lancaster Rally at Plano Cycling is tomorrow (Thurs) from 4 to 7... I'll be there working the table. Come out to say hi, and test ride the XStream that's on the floor while you're there!!! [smiley=thumbsup.gif] |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Apr 9th, 2009, 8:56pm Hey, Jason -- Are you working security for Saturday's event? If so, please stop by the registration table if you get the chance, and say hello.... I'd like to meet you. Paul |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by Hurricane Dan on Apr 9th, 2009, 10:04pm This will be my first organized ride. If I go to Mad Duck tomorrow and pick up a packet, do I still need to register online? [smiley=shrug.gif] |

Dan, Hope to see you there. We plan to ride our bikes on the 23 miler, unless it's too windy, then we will ride our trikes. We picked up our packets at Plano Cycling today. Lots of people registered and picked up their packet at the same time. Richard |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by Patti on Apr 10th, 2009, 7:48am Looks like another chilly morning ride. I signed up on Wednesday. See you all there! |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by Hurricane Dan on Apr 10th, 2009, 8:51am Thanks Richard. That's what I needed to know, if I could just do it all at the bike shop. I had to go out of town yesterday so I'll have to drive to Grapevine to get my packet today. What time is everyone getting there? Would you mind emailing me your cell # so I can find y'all in the morning? I don't have John's # and I don't think Tom is going. Thanks! P.S. Do you know if anyone is doing the 42? |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by jcsadowski on Apr 10th, 2009, 9:01am Dan, I will be doing the 42. John 214-783-3181 |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Apr 10th, 2009, 1:47pm Dan -- Don't make a special trip to Mad Duck if you don't have to -- you can also sign up in the morning there in Lancaster, no problem. Just fill out the waiver, and present your $25... Paul |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Apr 10th, 2009, 1:56pm Just a note on the course... in the middle of the 'Sugar Ridge road" section, about Mile 18, there's a sweeping downhill to the left that has historically had some loose gravel issues -- well, THIS year, that section of road is pretty torn up, so plan to take that particular downhill curve slowly... We'll have signs and perhaps a flagger there... |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by jcsadowski on Apr 10th, 2009, 2:16pm I think I remember that downhill. It gets crazy near the bottom, just when you are at your fastest. |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by MrOverdressed on Apr 10th, 2009, 2:52pm IF all goes well Im planing on this ride. Wither I will be on the tandem for 43miles or my X-Stream for 63miles. [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] Terry |
Title: Re: GDB Lancaster Rally, April 11 Post by Hurricane Dan on Apr 10th, 2009, 8:49pm I'll probably be there by 6:30am to make sure I can register early and get some breakfast. Can't find any info on parking on their website. Did any of you get info in your packet? |
Title: Parking Post by jcsadowski on Apr 10th, 2009, 9:06pm Just drive towards the town square. There will be flag people all over the place. Although 6:30 might be a bit early. Look for the gezabo |
