Title: Quirky Ride in Oak Cliff Feb 1
Post by Patti on Jan 23rd, 2009, 2:01pm

Saw this in the neighborhood paper today. Thought I'd pass it along. I understand that, if they get enough response, they want to plan a "Bonnie & Clyde" ride for the spring.

Join Bike Friendly Oak Cliff for a group bicycle ride on Sunday, February 1, at 2:30PM starting at Dealey Plaza in Downtown Dallas, and passing the infamous residences of John F. Kennedy’s alleged assassin. Our ride will take us over the 1912 Houston Street Viaduct, crossing into North Oak Cliff, and stopping at pivotal spots from that fateful day in 1963. The president of the Texas Theatre Renovation project will open the doors to the theatre and give our group a tour of the building Oswald was eventually captured in. We’ll end up our ride passing through the Bishop Arts District, stopping for drinks at Eno’s.

This ride will be weather permitting. We’ve had an unseasonably warm winter so far, but if temperatures drop below 50 degrees, we’ll plan on rescheduling. Check back prior to the ride date for updates.

Highlights of the trip will include:

- Meeting in front of the Sixth Floor Museum
- Riding over the 1912 Houston Street Viaduct
- stopping at 1026 N. Beckley, last residence of Lee Harvey Oswald
- Following LHO’s escape route to the site where JD. Tippit was shot
- Tour the inside of the Texas Theatre, site of LHO’s capture
- Ride through the Bishop Arts District and stop at Eno’s Tavern
- stopping at 214 W. Neely, site of infamous Oswald “Backyard Photos”

Actually I'm thinking about going on it. Train ride downtown and get off at the West End Station, then a couple of blocks to The Sixth Floor...

It'll be fun. I am concerned about the wimp out temperature of 50F or lower >:(

My son and I are planning to do it (assuming the weather gets a little better). We'll ride over from our house. I'm ok with that 50 degree cutoff. It's a new group and I'm guessing they don't want to discourage any new riders. :-)

Security has always been on my mind since I started ridinf recumbents.Yes, I have lost few 'k's' in stockmarket, but, my trike?  :'( You stated "get a guided tour of Texas Theater". So who's watching the trikes at that time? Cable and chains?
Patti, please let me have any info about this new group.

All I know about them is here on their website:

I don't know how they plan on dealing with security at the Texas Theatre or at Enos, other than lock it carefully. I would assume this is what any other group does on their rides, though.
