Title: Trinity Trail, Thursday Jan. 22, 4:20 PM Post by robert.j on Jan 21st, 2009, 12:06pm Gotta take advantage of the predicted 80+ degree temps for Thursday, so another ride planned leaving from the north end of Taylor Street (downtown Fort Worth) around 4:20. We'll head upriver (SW) until we've used up half the daylight, and then turn around. I'm guessing 20-25 miles. Right now Charlie, Brian and I should be there. All others welcome. Speed dependent upon how we all feel or whether someone tries to pass us! |

Once we get Daylight Savings Time back, we usually move this to 5:15 and still have plenty of daylight to ride. And it's a pretty regular Thursday event during the summer. I try to encourage newer riders to come out so it's not always the fastest ride on the planet. During the winter it's a little more haphazard due to the weather. I fortunately have a job where they don't mind if I get in early and then leave early so I have time to ride either downtown or at home in Keller. Looks like just Charlie and me today, so far. |

Bud, I hope you'll make it. Would be good to see you again! Cell is 817-995-5551 if you're running late and we need us to wait a bit. |
Title: Re: Trinity Trail, Thursday Jan. 22, 4:20 PM Post by robert.j on Jan 22nd, 2009, 11:15pm Good to see Bud and Charlie there for a 20 mile ride. Not too far, but everyone did a pretty fast pace. Pretty good headwind headed upriver, but of course that made it faster on the return. I'll be out there again tomorrow as the weekend looks like a washout for any riding on my part. |

Title: Re: Trinity Trail, Thursday Jan. 22, 4:20 PM Post by Bud_Bent on Jan 23rd, 2009, 9:08am Robert, it was great seeing you and Charlie. I need to make it out to the Trinity more often. I was already feeling the effects of a hard ride the day before, and trying to keep up with Charlie did a good job of finishing me off. A nice easy recovery ride this afternoon is definitely in order. |

Charlie and I got in behind those two fast DF riders and were doing 24.5-25 all the way down Bellaire St. Once we crossed the river they got ahead me climbing the ramp from the river bottom up to the trail and I was too wasted pushing up the ramp to close the gap. I suppose Charlie stayed up with them the rest of the way back. You passed me and I couldn't muster enough energy to keep up with you, but still ended up being the 2nd fastest I'd ever done the return leg. Definitely no records to be set this afternoon. Just 22 or so miles of nice easy enjoy-the-scenery type of ride! |

I couldn't make that turn at the top of that ramp, and stopping there put me even further behind. I did manage to keep them in sight. One of the riders turned off, and Charlie and the other rider slowed down then. I was right behind Charlie when he reached the parking lot. As long as they kept up that 24 mph pace, I was not going to catch them. |
Title: Re: Trinity Trail, Thursday Jan. 22, 4:20 PM Post by robert.j on Jan 23rd, 2009, 9:02pm What a nice afternoon for a ride. :) Around 80 degrees and almost no wind. Ran in to DJ and KennyG so we had a nice chat. Good to meet Kenny for the first time. 19.8 miles at an enjoyable 15.5 avg. Sure looking forward to some permanently warmer weather. |

It was nice meeting you and DJ as well. Sorry I dropped off, but I just plain ran out of fuel. Had to stop and recoup for a bit before I finished. I had intended to bring some Shot Bloks, but ran off with out them. With the fast last week and back on my diet this week, I need to be more careful about fueling up for rides. I still ended up with a 13.6 avg over 22.46 miles. I really need to do this ride the opposite direction, so I'm going down hill during the last half. |

I just went to log my time and realized that 13.6 is a full 2 MPH faster than any ride I've done since I bought the Cafe. If I had planned ahead for fuel, I probably could have been much closer to the 15.3 avg that I had during the first half of today's ride. |
Title: Re: Trinity Trail, Thursday Jan. 22, 4:20 PM Post by Rawhide on Jan 24th, 2009, 6:38am It was a pleasure to meet you Kenny & to see Robert again. There was some good conversation on trail yesterday. Oh yeah, the weather coudn't have been much better. DJ |
