Title: Windy Mesquite to Combine ride
Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Dec 12th, 2008, 5:20pm

Some of the GDB gang (including myself) are going to brave the 30 mph south winds tomorrow morning, departing at 9AM from Mesquite Poteet HS and riding down to Combine and back, for about 50 miles.  Overall average will probably be 16, with ~14 mph into the wind and 20+ on the return leg...   I'll be riding from home, to get in my possible last 100K of the year for my BikeJournal metric goal(although I really kinda doubt it'll be the last one...)

Well, that worked out pretty well, actually...  it was a breezy, chilly morning start, calling for tights, jackets, and arm warmers, but by 10:00 or so it was already warmed up a bit, so the wardrobe adjustments began in earnest.  This route goes through Mesquite down through Sunnyvale to Combine, then we had a nice tailwind most of the way back.  51 miles, 16.5 mph avg, no flats or mechanicals, done by 1PM.

Way to go Paul.  I just finished a little over 26 miles on the Trinity Trail for a 17.7 avg.  The wind sure made for some interesting moments.  DJ
