Title: Velo Venus 109K ride Post by Strada177 on Nov 11th, 2008, 3:34pm Bud & I are planning to ride the Velo Venus 109k(67.7 miles) rado route this Saturday at 7:30am. The weather this Saturday is predicted to be a little cool(OK cold)& windy. The plan is to ride this route at a faster pace(18+mph). |
Title: Re: Velo Venus 109K ride Post by bikerteam on Nov 11th, 2008, 7:41pm I'm in. Where is the exact start location? According to RUSA, is departs from "Arlington". And the description is: "Arlington, Mansfield, Lillian, Venus, Lillian, Everman, Arlington. Mostly low-traffic, rural roads" |

It starts at the McDonalds at the corner of Green Oaks and Forest Bend, which is near I-20 and Green Oaks. It's across the street from the new Bicycles Inc, probably 200 feet from where Rose works. There's a cue sheet here (http://www.bikely.com/cuesheet/route/Velo-Venus-9-17-08). |
Title: Re: Velo Venus 109K ride Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Nov 11th, 2008, 8:52pm Strong north winds projected for Saturday.... :( |

And we have it planned perfectly: we'll be riding with the wind in the morning when it's lighter, then riding against it after it picks up. I love it when a plan comes together! |

Title: Re: Velo Venus 109K ride Post by Bud_Bent on Nov 11th, 2008, 9:09pm It's all small, tree-lined roads that are very protected from the wind. Remind me I said that as we are leaving Venus, headed north on FM157. |

Title: Re: Velo Venus 109K ride Post by Strada177 on Nov 13th, 2008, 7:26pm OK ,I need a head count for Saturday's Velo-Venus ride. Bud & Ray should already have the perm.cards/cue sheets(and I assume you're still riding). Greg are you coming? Anyone else? -Steve |
Title: Re: Velo Venus 109K ride Post by Bud_Bent on Nov 13th, 2008, 8:07pm This route has more turns than any 60 mile route I've ever seen. We should be able to turn this into a century easily... |

Title: Re: Velo Venus 109K ride Post by aikigreg on Nov 13th, 2008, 11:10pm wow, I just looked at that cue card - it has almost as many turns as that county road cool breeze ride. What made you guys choose that one? |

The tour of Twelve Cities was my next option. It looked liked a lot of busy roads in Arlington. |
Title: Re: Velo Venus 109K ride Post by Bud_Bent on Nov 14th, 2008, 9:56am Yeah, it's the usual choice of rough roads with lots of turns, or high traffic. Of course, if you go east, you get rough roads AND high traffic. |

Cool is relative. Just take a look at weather.com, US map. Look at the temperatures our brethern Rando riders across the country will be riding in. Tomorrow will be a beautiful day, and just look skyward and thank God that you're able to ride ;) Plus, the tempts for next Saturday's Spanish Fort are projected to be warmer than this Saturday. |
Title: Re: Velo Venus 109K ride Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Nov 14th, 2008, 4:30pm All this discussion of "wind," perhaps somebody should buy this shirt for Bud for Xmas... :-X http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g73/flyinglazboy/BudShirt.jpg |
Title: Re: Velo Venus 109K ride Post by Strada177 on Nov 14th, 2008, 5:39pm One last note about the rando ride tomorrow. Jerry Austin(route owner) has this request... Park at Bicycles Inc., southeast corner of I-20 and SW Green Oaks Blvd, Arlington. The start/finish control is the McDonalds across the street. McDonalds has been giving us receipts without a purchase. All Hail Fartacus!!! |
