Title: Velo Venus 109K ride
Post by Strada177 on Nov 11th, 2008, 3:34pm

Bud & I are planning to ride the Velo Venus 109k(67.7 miles) rado route this Saturday at 7:30am. The weather this Saturday is predicted to be a little cool(OK cold)& windy. The plan is to ride this route at a faster pace(18+mph).

I'm in.

Where is the exact start location?  According to RUSA, is departs from "Arlington".  And the description is:
"Arlington, Mansfield, Lillian, Venus, Lillian, Everman, Arlington. Mostly low-traffic, rural roads"

It starts at the McDonalds at the corner of Green Oaks and Forest Bend, which is near I-20 and Green Oaks. It's across the street from the new Bicycles Inc, probably 200 feet from where Rose works.

There's a cue sheet here (http://www.bikely.com/cuesheet/route/Velo-Venus-9-17-08).

And we have it planned perfectly: we'll be riding with the wind in the morning when it's lighter, then riding against it after it picks up. I love it when a plan comes together!

It's all small, tree-lined roads that are very protected from the wind. Remind me I said that as we are leaving Venus, headed north on FM157.

OK ,I need a head count for Saturday's Velo-Venus ride. Bud & Ray should already have the perm.cards/cue sheets(and I assume you're still riding). Greg are you coming? Anyone else?

This route has more turns than any 60 mile route I've ever seen. We should be able to turn this into a century easily...

wow, I just looked at that cue card - it has almost as many turns as that county road cool breeze ride.  What made you guys choose that one?

The tour of Twelve Cities was my next option. It looked liked a lot of busy roads in Arlington.

Yeah, it's the usual choice of rough roads with lots of turns, or high traffic. Of course, if you go east, you get rough roads AND high traffic.

Which is a perennial favorite amongst bentriders everywhere!   8-)  Looks like it's been a great week but tomorrow will be cool.

Cool is relative.  Just take a look at weather.com, US map.   Look at the temperatures our brethern Rando riders across the country will be riding in.  Tomorrow will be a beautiful day, and just look skyward and thank God that you're able to ride  ;)

Plus, the tempts for next Saturday's Spanish Fort are projected to be warmer than this Saturday.

One last note about the rando ride tomorrow. Jerry Austin(route owner) has this request...

Park at Bicycles Inc., southeast corner of I-20 and SW Green Oaks Blvd, Arlington.  The start/finish control is the McDonalds across the street.  McDonalds has been giving us receipts without a purchase.

All Hail Fartacus!!!
