Title: 2008 Tour de Argyle
Post by mleuck on Oct 4th, 2008, 1:54pm

Slightly different loop than last year, they eliminated the 2nd lap west of Argyle and added a section in south Denton. The web page stated 62 miles but the paperwork said 58. Most of this area I've ridden many times before and most of it is good roads, no bad chipseal however some of the routes west and north of Argyle have badly patched roads.

I looks like they had more participation than last year, Ray Torrey and John Sadowski were there. I think the total bent count was 6 or 7. They need to change the route markings since some turns were tiny arrows painted on the road and some were signs. If I wasn't familiar with the route I would have missed several corners.

2 weeks ago at the Greenville Cotton Classic a guy drafted me for 7 or 8 miles before dropping off, he called me his rabbit and sure enough he was here doing the same thing, this time he kept up with me for 20 miles before I dropped him with 4 miles to go. Nice friendly guy.

Last night I changed the Stevios back to my last pair of Vredestein S-Licks, I can't help but think I was faster today because of that. Stevios are good tires but not on some of those crappy roads north and west of Argyle.

The wind started picking up from the south near the end which made the 6-mile final leg from Denton to Argyle a major struggle, if it weren't for that I'd have had a 21 average.

58.35 miles
2 hours 53 minutes 24 seconds
157 bpm average heart rate, 182 max
20.2 mph average.

Great write-up Markie-Mark  ;D

yes, I was on Angie's Rans V3  :-X

I wanted to get get in at least 100 miles today, so since Angie I have to be in Little Elm at 6pm, I left my house for this ride at 'o-dark-thirty'. I arrived at the school in Argyle without about 20 minutes to spare, thus a little recovery.  I started in the middle of the pack.  Within the first mile, I decided to hammer (even though I'd been riding for several hours); I got the lead group, and eventually the lead out vehicle.  At the base of "Hill Top", the casette started slipping and wouldn't engage.  It didn't take long for the lead pack to pass me, then shortly after that Mark came by.  He got to hear the bike to cling, cling, cling, and hear me cuss as he passed me.  I stopped at the top and luckily somebody came by and was able to tighten the rings.  Off I went trying to catch whoever I could.

The V3 is definately a fast bike, and I like it a lot.  Even with an early mechanically that slowed me to a crawl up Hill Top, I got in 70 miles with a 19.2 avg.  Like Mark said, I would have averaged close to 21 mph if it wasn't for a strong south wind that I had to ride directly into for the last 20 miles.  I rode to my ability today, and left nothing to spare.

Came home, took a long bath, and about to take an uncharacteristic nap for a few hours before we have to go to the party in Little Elm...

I'm not sure if I caught the lead riders or not, all I know is nobody passed me and after about the 5 mile mark I didn't pass or see anyone else. I didn't realize you had loose rings, I thought you were having the same problem I did with a poorly adjusted cassette, that is the one maintenance area I have yet to fully figure out  :)
