Hey, it's been a while since we've done a multi-group, multi-pace airport loop ride together, and there are several new faces (and bikes) in the group... since the Argyle ride conflicts with Saturday Oct 4th, whaddaya say we get the gang together Sunday afternoon Oct 5th?

Meet at the Avaya parking lot on Freeport Pkwy north of 635 at 3PM. (Yeah, I know there's a Cowboy game at 4:15 here, but it's against the BENGALS, fer cryin' out loud...) ;) We'll ride together to the Shell station, then split into at least two pace groups to go around the airport, and get 20 to 30 miles in (group dependent), then explore possible places to eat afterwards.

It's something overdue, n'est ce pas?

[We could also do it on Saturday the 4th, if very few folks are going to do tha Argyle rally.]

Let's go ahead and set it up for that Sunday at 3PM, mark your calendars!! Bring 'em out, fast or slow!!! I'll have maps for those unfamiiliar with the airport loop itself. It's ~15 miles around if you don't do the control tower piece, ~18 miles if you do. The Shell station at the northeast corner is a convenient stop, and the rental car transfer on the south end is an alternate bathroom/rest stop. The vast majority of the road around the airport is two lane, so traffic isn't much of a problem.

I would like to join and meet everyone if I am not out of town that weekend. I need to get a rack to get this monster Stratus out there. I will be part of the slow group.

Tim, I use a Saris "Guardian" DF-style trunk rack that works well. The bike sticks out about 6" on one side with the front wheel turned (or removed), and it's never been a problem.

Tim what part of town are you in? I would be that you could catch a ride with somebody.

I live in The Colony. I should have a rack by then. I was thinking about getting a hitch and then maybe the long bike tote (www.longbiketote.com) so the bike could sit upright. That is the expensive way to go but it might be best. I have a Honda CR-V so I need to see if any sites have suggestions on what might work best. The only bad thing is that Sunday is not one of the days my medicine allows me to have a few beers. :'( Thanks for everyone's help.

Bring out your trikes, your BikeEs, your Barons, whatever -- let's see a buncha folks out there to ride!!!

3PM departure from Avaya. Maps provided, if you don't know your way around the airport, but we'll have no-drop groups going anyway, so no worries. Total one-lap distance is about 20 miles, start to finish.

A good place to go to eat affter the Airport Loop riding is probably one of the restaurant row establishments at MacArthur and 635 -- it's not too far back east from Freeport Pkwy...

I think we should all head out to http://www.lamadeleine.com/ after the ride :D I can scope it out tuesday or anywhere else since I pass by all that on my bike commute. Actually I kinda like that place so maybe not.

I am looking forward to the ride and meeting some of the people who are all over this site. I will need to learn to drive again with the "wide load" Stratus XP on the back. I will be one of the leisurely riders, just enjoying the afternoon. ;D

That's the basic route, except that we're starting at the AVAYA company parking lot, just north of 635, closer to the "3/23" mile markers.

I will be there but I want to know what an in between rider does. I can't keep up with the likes of Paul or Greg but it's equally painful for me to go with the slow guys. So I am in between. Anybody else is my category?

DANG IT! I was sooooo hoping to do this ride this weekend but I have a rehearsal and photo shoot at 6pm at SMU, for which I have to be dressed up and non-sweaty. No matter how I look at it, I don't think I'll have enough of a time window. Y'all have a great time and I'll just have to meet everyone some other day.

Count me in for the 1 lap....I am a slow rider to began with, but...being forced to easily going back to riding my bike.."Doc's Orders", Im even forced to be slower...bout 10mpr. But I will be there with Bud. Sounds like there will be other slow riders such as myself...since Bud will be with the faster group. Looking forward to seeing ya'll....and meeting new folks. Ummm....any other females gonna be out there?

Paul I planing on riding without Steve :'( (football) Corsa Mike will be my riding partner , I did the 200k today in all that wind so I don't think I'll ride with the fast group tomorrow. Looking forward to see everyone and getting to meet some our new rbenters.

I've got a well drilling that could be at the point I need to get involved right about ride time this afternoon, meaning I need to hang around somewhere with computer access. If I'm not there at 3:00 don't wait on me.

Here's a route map on mapmyride.com, but I'll have paper versions with me. THe "Tower loop" detour at the south end is optional, and is about 3 miles. I'd recommend taking it, unless we have a 20 mph south wind....

Vicky and I are planning to be there on our trikes. I am glad to read there are others who will be doing about 10mph.

Well wish I would have been feeling better today. My allergies kept me up all night last night. I have been pretty much in bed all day, trying to make sure I make it to work tomorrow. Hopefully next time, it's been a really bad allergy season so far.
