Title: GDB DFW Airport ride, Sat 6/28 Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Jun 23rd, 2008, 9:59am I haven't done the GDB Airport Ride for a while -- so I'm planning to do it this coming Saturday. If anyone wants to join me, c'mon out -- departing at 8AM from the southwest corner parking lot at Preston and Forest Lane in Dallas. Typical cruising speed 16-18 (faster around the airport loop if ya wanna, but there are slower groups), ~54 miles total distance, back by noon. PB |

We should arrive at the Shell station at 114 and Freeport(?) a little after 9AM (since it's 18 miles to there from Preston/Forest). We take a short break, then do the airport loop -- some people even do two loops, which I may do as well, dunno right now. It's 18 miles around the airport, or 15 if you don't do the "control tower loop" section. Paul |

I don't know why but until I looked up Freeport and 114 on google maps I never realized just how close my commute is to that airport. Heck half the time on my commute home I ride past that very intersection riding up royal (parallel to 114). Now it makes sense why I see alot of large groups of cyclists riding down royal. I'm going to have to see how beat down I am this week. My wife has the car in Houston till tonight but I am going to try and make a go at 5 days round trip. 225+ miles commuting might require not moving at all this weekend least of all 18mph ride? *sigh* |

Ummm...this ride sounds promising. I just got back in town & had no ride commitments this weekend. |
Title: Re: GDB DFW Airport ride, Sat 6/28 Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Jun 26th, 2008, 11:16am I'm NOT going to be going with the "fast" group on the way out there, as such -- probably just my normal 16+ cruise pace. This is because, due to car repair issues, I think I'm going to be riding in to the ride start, which gives me about 18 miles of warmup... So Steve, I figure I'll be riding at a pace about like we did for OK is OK last weekend... but perhaps a faster loop around the airport, hanging with a group. C'mon out to Preston/Forest! |
Title: Re: GDB DFW Airport ride, Sat 6/28 Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Jun 26th, 2008, 11:20am For those interested in doing 40ish miles on a Saturday morning, there is always the GDB Distance Builder ride, which meets and departs at the same location, same time as the Airport Ride. It's a more casual, no drop group, although the typical pace is 15+, and the route changes weekly.... GDB welcomes all comers, you don't have to be a member to join in on rides. Just introduce yourself around before the start, and find the DB ride leader for that Saturday -- it changes weekly as well. I did this ride a LOT my first couple years, working up to 40-50 mile distances. |
