Title: Ode to tonight's rabbit.

Thanks for the jolt, exactly at my turnaround point.   Even though weather underground reports no weather, somehow it was howling and right in my face once I descended into the trinity valley.  The 14.4 mph average was all I could seem to muster in spite of wanting to give myself a strong cardio workout - which, if my smell is any indication, is exactly what i did.

When you turned around a quarter mile ahead of me, I turned it up, even though the wind again seemed to be blowing in my face, although less so.  You must have seen me, because you kicked it up.  18 wasn't enough.  22 wasn't enough.  24 wasn't enough.  Once I kept it steady at 25 with bursts to 28+ I finally gained ground.  I caught you after five miles, with my heart hammering out of my chest.  I must have done you in, because when you pealed off the right fork you slowed like you'd hit the brakes.  I needed a breather too.  You're a hell of a rider - for someone on one of THOSE bikes.   :P

Whew!  Nice 20 mile ride, but I still can't seem to keep a strong cruising speed.  Not sure why.  Of course, it could have something to do with sore quads from lifting yesterday, even though I used practically no weight on my squats.  Oh well, we'll know for sure this weekend!
