We are in fact planning to make this a 4 month series (unless the 1st one flops, then all bets are off) For now, prize list is limited as most racers have told me they really just want to race and our current budget is $0 before sponsor checks come in The climb at the end is nothing compared to the one right after the turnaround, and the one 2.6 miles before the finish. If anyone wants to come out and run it with me sometime, let me know and I'll try to work something out to join you (on my wedgie bike). My best time on it is 39:37, 18.8 mph. If anyone breaks 32 minutes I'll be really surprised, break 30 minutes and you get the "Horse Country Stud" award (aka bragging rights). We stopped at a stop light on Hwy 377/FM 428, and three guys in a car with road bikes on a roof rack where yelling "Nice Bacchetta's !","You guys should come ride the time trials sometime." We ride past Aubrey all the time. I have no idea what TT's are all about. I just ride my bike. |

I was talking the whole thing over with Bud, and we came to the conclusion that it was a silly thing, when the cop was getting paid very well for very little work, that he would be so anti-bike. Heck, extra cash in my pocket makes me extremely lieable to the person giving me money! I'll be there in August for sure. I may be somewhere else at the end of July, but I want to come and try my hand against nelson! |

Sponsor issues (i.e., we don't have enough that will give cash...). I'm told this is in line with pretty much everthing but the weekday crits... I will have 'bent medals through 5 places and door prizes again this time...as well as much smoother everything. Will probably start registration earlier and may even be able to send out your start times the night before! |

I had very low expectations for the race as I was still feeling the 400K quite a bit in the legs. The pace might have been a little higher, but things seemed pretty smooth. My legs were protesting quite a bit so I decided I had done enough about halfway through. I was glad to get the logistics out of the way, and next week should go better I hope. I was looking around for you in the C race, but didn't see you officiating until we started. I'm thinking I may ride the TT course a few times this Saturday morning. I'd like to see it. SO I attacked on my last lap and got a good 20 second gap :) NOBODY saw me as a threat! Then I pulled out. Maybe next week I attack again and make it stick, since I know I won;t be chased.... Practicing the TT course is a great idea. Start at the school. If you get to the construction area, you went too far :) If you don't pass a gas station with a dragster on the roof, you didn't go far enough! DB |

I was looking at about 36 minutes, so I officially suck at time trials. I might have been faster on the Lemond on this one. I was doing the outbound leg in a shade over 16, so 19 something coming back. Definitely harder coming back. If anybody else shows up I'm toast! You could always come up and cheer for your teammates! For those that have not done a TT before there are a few basic rules: No drafting. Your jersey must have sleeves. Open course, so the shoulder is recommended, but not required Do not impede traffic that is passing you if you choose to ride in the traffic lane At the start, there will be a holder. His job is to hold you upright while you get clipped in and ready to go. The official will let you know 15 seconds before you start and then 5...4...3...2...1...go. The holder will release you, but will not push you so on go, you release the brakes and take off. If you are late for your start time, your time starts without you. Approach the finish line and announce "late starter", and then wait for instructions. Being late for your start is NOT a DQ. It just adds to your time. We are running everyone 30 seconds apart, so you might pass someone or be passed. give space between bikes so you don;t run afoul of the "no drafting" rule. All basic stuff. If you want to practice the "hold and release", we have a lot of concrete in the parking lot. Good idea if you've never done it before, just so you know what it feels like. John is a very good holder. that's it :) |

Riding in the traffic lane is an automatic 30 second penalty... Small changes: Extended registration, more folks on course (I hope), and an Aubrey cop being hired. I am a legal vehicle, there is no minimum posted speed. Since when did having guns make you right? I can't get too upset though, the car-centric world is going to be rocked on its heels in the next few years, so I'll just keep riding my bike and organizing my life in a car-free manner and help others do the same. All that said, I did see people not pulling over onto the shoulder, which seems like the neighborly thing to do, after all it is available, but I get plenty of people who yell at me to get off the road onto the sidewalk, or just out of there way in general so they can continue to exceed the speed limit by at least 10mph so I'm a bit sensitive on this subject. Basically I'm doing car drivers a favor by relinquishing the traffic lane to allow them to pass, but because I'm operating my legal vehicle (bicycle) in accordance with the law regarding it I am under no compulsion to do so. The car is free to pass me as soon as it is safe to do so and in a safe manner, but because they might have to slow down before passing is safe is not a valid reason to require me to not ride in the traffic lane. Now I'm put in the uncomfortable position of having to choose to condone their incorrect and illegal interpretation (disenfranchising my rights, and not recognizing the equality of my vehicle to a car) by my participation or choosing not to participate and help my friend's race and fundraising. I'm certainly not asking Kevin to fight that battle, but they are simply wrong. |

So they do have the ability to make this "interpretation" for the conditions of the race, they could not enforce it with the expectation that it would be upheld though if I were not participating in the competitive event. I look at it from the "will this object make me crash or change my line" perspective. Dead animals go (yuck) Rocks bigger than a golfball go Shredded tires go Anything else I wouldn't want to hit as a racer goes. This takes 1-3 hours each month, depending on how much stuff there is. Pushing a broom twelve miles is part of promoting. I do have a number for TXDOT that is ging to try to get a sweeper out there a day or two beforehand. All that said, if a truck drops a load or there is fresh roadkill between 7pm Friday and 9am Saturday, we'll just have to dodge it. Greg...the date is may 10th...thanks for asking |

He actually likes us coming to town. As long as everyone (cars and bikes) behaves reasonably, there is no issue :) Interesting story he told me about his first arrest 18 years ago. It was a car vs. bike road rage deal with a gun involved. The cyclist was packing heat and threatening the driver that had cut him off. This was before concealed carry permits. See ya'll on the 10th! Guessing 9:30-9:45, but it really depends on attendance, snice we start each group about 5 minutes after the previous one is gone |

Most of the debris is tire tread and a few branches. All teh road kill looks to be near the yellow line (and ew it smells). If someone needs to pass me going up that hill can they use the right turn only lanes? The shoulder for the last 200 meters is 3ft or less. |

Just like I can't race my track bike in a road event as is, a 'bent can't race against uprights (ya'll are just too fast...) but you can race each other. Same for tandems...they get their own category for the races where the promoters want to include them, such as the state time trials in Pattison. For Nelson, it makes sense to have an annual since he can race crits and maybe even track someday. For those that only do HCTT, 3 one days is the better deal. |

The best recumbent time is 10 minutes behind the best DF time. Since I knocked a minute off my time from the first race to the second one, I figure if I keep improving at that rate and there's 3 races per year, I'll catch that DF rider when I'm about 61! As an added bonus, you get to pass me as I'm sure I'm out of the gates first. |

The recumbents may best time was a full 2 minutes slower then march. I mean c'mon already a bike with a bottle dynamo had the best time! :-[ 123 1 minutes faster 45 2 minutes faster Womens 2 minutes faster |
