Title: Red Cross Icon Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Apr 10th, 2007, 8:49am I'm gonna be off the bike for about a month, starting next week -- having eyeball surgery, and they kinda don't want you getting your blood pressure way up for a while afterwards... and a combination of dust and sunscreen in the eyes is typically not recommended as a healing balm.... Title: Re: Red Cross Icon Post by Bud_Bent on Apr 10th, 2007, 9:06am Dang, always something tugging at the bike time, isn't there? They tell me I need neck surgery, but there hasn't been a date set, yet. |
Title: Re: Red Cross Icon Post by Opus the Poet on Apr 10th, 2007, 12:58pm Gee, Paul, are you giving us mere mortals a chance to catch up? Opus |
Title: Re: Red Cross Icon Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Apr 10th, 2007, 1:10pm Oh, heck, I'm already 800 miles behind last year's pace... :) |
Title: Re: Red Cross Icon Post by aikigreg on Apr 10th, 2007, 3:29pm holy crap - what's wrong with you? :) |
Title: Re: Red Cross Icon Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Apr 14th, 2007, 9:50pm Nothing I haven't had done before, just the other eye... I seem to be prone to cataract problems, so had a lens implant in the right eye in 2003... Now the left one needs it, due to double/triple vision... I know my eye Dr. all too well.... PB |
Title: Re: Red Cross Icon Post by aikigreg on Apr 14th, 2007, 10:13pm yuck. I have to see a cornea specialist every few months to monitor my horrible eyes as well - I'll likely have to undergo a transplant eventually, so I know how you feel. I also just learned today I've got to have extensive surgery on my feet. Between you, Bud, and I, we manage to keep the hospitals busy! |

Sheesh, y'all, there isn't this much surgery in the 50+ cycling forum! After another fna on my neck yesterday, they seem to think maybe no surgery for me after all, at least for now, but I'll have to wait on the lab to know for sure. |
Title: Re: Red Cross Icon Post by Richard on Apr 18th, 2007, 10:39am Is the surgery anything like the crystal lens procedure. I have "old" eyes and that has been recommended for me. I am a bit concerned about the long term effects. I would like to talk to someone that has had it for a few years. I hope all goes well with you and your recovery is as speedy as your bike. |
Title: Re: Red Cross Icon Post by Opus the Poet on Apr 18th, 2007, 2:12pm My Dad has had implants for several years now due to exposure to microwave radiation during his years as a Comm Tech in the Yacht Club (US Navy) and his only problems are the limited accomidation of the early types of implanted lens. Title: Re: Red Cross Icon Post by FlyingLaZBoy on Apr 19th, 2007, 12:03pm I did have the "Crystalens" procedure done in this eye... the concept is intriguing, in that the central part of the lens can flex somewhat like your natural lens due to hinged construction. All I can say so far is that my vision is already better than it was, after only 48 hours! Doc Carter was very pleased at the post-op visit yesterday... My right eye has a fixed focus lens, that I don't plan to replace. Trouble is, United HEalthcare doesn't cover the increased $$$ for the Crystalens... but I just mentally amortized it over the next 50 years of seeing through it... PB |
