Recurring Clown Ride
Apr 20^th, 2009, 2:24pm

The "clowns" ride every Tuesday and Thursday mornings around White Rock Lake and White Rock Trail.
Official meeting place in Barbec's for breakfast at 8:30 a.m.
We have been having an average of 8-10 riders, depending on weather conditions.
If you do not want to eat be at TP Hill at about 9:30.
Average speed is 10-12 mph.
Any questions post here or call the 1st clown at 214-783-3181

One back to school the other to pumpkins but we are still having 6-8 riders show up on Tuesday and thursday. Today when we walked in they had a table already set up with 8 waters for us.

Regardless of the conditions some of us plan to show up at Barbec's for breakfast. @8:30 a.m.
I am not planning to use the trail but will drive down. If the weather cooperates I will bring my bike, park at Winfrey point, and try to ride a few miles before breakfast.
Despite the rain the trail around the lake is usually clear.

I will be at Barbec's for breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and watching the temperature outside. After breakfast we (I) will decide if it is warm enough to ride.

You were on the Path behind the Arboretum, just as I was nearing the Winfrey Point parking lot in my SUV. We left the parking lot, going in a clockwise direction on the Path, about 20 minutes after you passed the lot.

Yes, we ride every Tuesday and Thursday. We meet for breakfast a little before 8:00 AM at Barbec's, and start riding at Sunset Bay about 9:00 AM. There is no interview. Once you ride with the Clowns, you become one.

You can get your official Clown tatt applied either at the shop across the street from Barbec's or by Clown #1, Texas prison style (sewing needle and ballpoint pen ink). You'll gain instant respect, if you have it applied by Clown #1. Cheesy

Every once in a great while I'll wear my clown jersey. Others sometimes wear their RBENT jerseys. Some wear shorts and Tee shirts. No official uniform. We're Clowns, we don't care what anyone wears.

I'm sorry we didn't ride further with the group, but we felt that we should not push the mileage. We ended up doing about 46 miles. We plan riding again next week.

The week coming in is Spring Break for Irving ISD, so I will try to make it for the Ride at least Tuesday, and perhaps Thursday as well.

Looks like good weather for the week, once we get past Sunday.

I'll be looking for more and more miles after my inaugural "End of the Hibernation Ride", otherwise known as the RBM Trike Ride, tomorrow. I need to jettison weight, and sculpt off these rounded corners. Smiley

They were using shovels to remove dried mud on the Trail. The mud in the tunnel had been partially removed by some kind of motorized equipment.

We will be at the lake on Tuesday Aug 4 and Thursday Aug 6.

I too drive a Grand Caravan, so I could haul my Silvio 2.0 to the lake for you to take back to Missouri. Wouldn't do it though, because the Silvio has a mind of it's own and wants to change lanes, unexpectedly. You might find yourself crashing through the woods at 45 mph at the bottom of one of those steep Missouri hills. Cheesy

We order breakfast at 8:00 and arrive at the Sunset Bay parking lot somewhere between 8:30 and 8:45. Some of our riders don't eat breakfast and do a lap or two, before the Barbec's crowd arrives.

If you ride down the White Rock Creek Trail, be aware that it's totally blocked off about a 1/3 mile south of the lower Anderson-Bonner parking lot. You have to take the street from the parking lot and ride to Forrest Lane to get back on the Trail.

Vicky and I would like to host the Clown Christmas Party on Thursday Dec 17. Our address is 2830 Silverspring Rd, Carrollton TX. We are near the south-west corner of Marsh and Keller Springs. From Marsh, turn west on Carriage Lane (there is a traffic light), then take the first road to the North (Wippoorwill). Go to the end of the road and follow it as it turns west. Our house is the 5th one on the south side. It is the one with massive Christmas lights.
We will plan on eating at about 6, but feel free to come over earlier, rush hour traffic can get bad going north on Marsh.
We will provide Swedish meatballs, beanie-weinies and a fruit tea punch. Please bring a dish or desert and drinks, if you prefer something else.
Please bring a gift valued at about $15. For the usual Chinese gift exchange.
Rbent friends are also invited. Please post on this thread or e-mail me if you can attend.

We never 'finish' but we only ride on Tuesday and Thursday
When it gets cold we change the breakfast time to 9:00.
Not many ride when it gets below 35 degree but some do.

No, we are not finished. We ride all year long, weather permitting, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A few of us occasionally do the PBA/GDB Plano East Side ride on Saturdays: http://www.greaterdallasbicyclists.com/content.aspx?page_id=87&club_id=74733 3&item_id=491055. Others may ride elsewhere on weekends. I, personally, am not riding this weekend, because I will be with a visiting relative.

You might want to consider doing the Turkey Roll Bicycle Rally in Denton on Saturday: http://www.dentonbreakfastkiwanis.org/news.php?entryid=7. At least one of the Clowns has signed up for the ride.

I had a nice solitary ride out at the speedway. I took two bikes and one of them had the brake rubbing on the left side. It (and the wind) slowed my average speed to 15.4mph. So I got out my other bike and took off. Much better. Saw a time trialer on my last lap--aero helmet and all. As we passed I did a U-turn and smoked him quite easily. Of course, it might have been his first of 50 laps. On my way there I saw a road sign that said "SHOULDER WORK". If you'd come out jrob maybe they could have fixed yours! Ended up with 31 miles at 18.4mph. Really like that loop.

I'm planning to go out there at about 4PM, instead, probably parking at the Bathhouse lot near the portapotties... get a couple laps in before dark, then another lap or so with lights.

Well Clowns. I finally got me a trike again. But it will be a lil longer before I come out . This coming May 3 I'm having surgery for weight loss. So it will be end of May or begining of June before I come out from healing. Will see me losing weight fast. See ya soon guys.
BTW. JoElla has already lost 65 lbs so far from January.

Sunset Bay is still barricaded off. Propose we meet at Norbuck Park tomorrow morning (Thurs 4/16/20) at 9:00 AM (Kenny and I plan on being there). The two port-a-potties that were there on Tuesday are still there, as of 5:45 PM this afternoon. The potties that were at the Bath House have been removed. The one on the top of Dreyfus Hill is still there, and is accessible. All the potties on East Lawther, between Mockingbird Ln and Big Thicket are still there, and accessible. All the potties that were in the parking lots off West Lawther have been removed. The potties in the park on Fair Oaks Blvd, just East of the SoPac, are being serviced and are in good shape. Didn't go in any of the other accessible potties, so don't know what their conditions are. The ones at Norbuck Park were emptied by the honey wagon on Tuesday, and left dry. No TP and no sanitizing liquid. Bring your own TP and air freshener. Tongue
