I have heard of Q-Rings before, though I have never pedaled them. Just today, I heard of Osymetrics: http://www.osymetric.com/en/ I guess they've been out for a while, but I'm wondering what the difference, if any, there is between the two makes. [smiley=shrug.gif]

I had never heard of them until recently. I was riding along one day and joined another rider who instantly looked at my chain rings and said OMG, I haven't seen osymetric rings in years. After a brief discussion and him understanding I was riding rotor Qrings I came to realize there were other brands I didn't know about.

Love my q rings [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] and short cranks.

I've heard good things about elliptical chainrings, but I haven't spent the money yet.... it's an intriguing theory!!

I've got q rings on a couple of bikes, and I like them. At first they seemed like they made it more work to pedal, then I figured out why. If you pedal with a fairly consistent rpm and you're in a gear that lets you do that comfortably thru the "less mechanical advantage" portion of your pedal stroke, essentially you're loafing thru the "more mechanical advantage" portion of the pedal stroke. The q rings remove those micro loafing periods and allow you to get tired out more quickly and efficiently than ever before! Ain't it great!

Beside the cost, the only bad thing about them is they make adjusting and tuning the FD a lot more fussy, and shifting isn't quite as smooth anymore.

The middle chainring on every bike I've had since 2007 has been a Q-ring. I love them. Because of the shape, you can't get one with as few teeth as a regular chainring, so my granny chainring is usually a regular chainring. And with some front deraillers, a Q-ring as the big chainring doesn't shift well, so some of my big chainrings are regular chainrings, but I do 98 percent of my pedaling in the middle Q-ring, no matter which bike I'm riding.
